Part of our office has had their Georoute put in (and a right balls up), we've now had the walk logs for the rest of the office 70+ deliveries.
Now the tricky part, as I'm a member of the CWU committee we have in our office, I'm one of the people who have to try and sort out any problems that there will be. Just on my delivery they dumped half a delivery again, and people were ranting and moaning before I left today, so I think I'll be kept busy :)
What I would like, is help from other offices that have been georouted, especially from Reps and people who have dealt with the problems, and negotiated their way to a fairer deal.
So I thought if people could say, if the georoute start was different from the basic, which I believe is - 88% call rate, 1.2% packet rate, walk speed of 3.8/4 mph.
I could do with help on the average driving speed they used, how many hours the deliveries are for both town and rural, I noticed on ours there is nothing said about acceleration, pouch drops, did you manage to get speeds down because of terrain, could average driving speeds be lowered if mostly single tracks etc.
I expect I've missed a load of thoughts out, but I was hoping if we can get this thread to have some good ideas and tips, then it could be made a sticky for everyone to benefit from.
So if possible can only people who have or going through georoute answer.
Thanks for any help that you can give.

Re: Georoute help
In the courier an article titled 'Putting the record straight' RM actually suggested the actual walk speed to be nearer 2mph. because of all the unpopular publicity around 4mph in the media. They acually said if it was 4mph the average 3.5 hour town round would be 14 miles long! The average length of a town walk according to the article is 5.5 miles which is about 2mph.
So thats your start point.
Offer to verify georoute with a more accurate measure of your own. GPS systems is the way to go.(garmin offer many options)
GPS devices are now quite cheap and they offer a more realistic measure.
Simply wear the device like a wristwatch press go and hey presto.
It includes all the diverse abilities of our posties. Something georoute ignors.
It includes gradient, moving speed, average speed, time spent stationary (waitin on doorsteps, opening gates etc) Having a wee! Walking up every designated path, flick checking mail whilst stationary, The list is endless! But stacked in your favour if done correctly!
The total distance measurement is accurate to one to two metres total. Average town 3.5 hour deliveries tend to be about 5-6 miles which is an average of 2 mph. All info can be downloaded onto pc.
The evidence is accurate and transparent. Nobody can argue the findings. Georoute can be easily manipulated with their own variables such as increased speed, low call rate and low packet calls etc. If they need 10% saving georoute will find it. They just alter the variables to suit their own needs. GPS offers irrefutable evidence of how long a delivery actually takes and takes account of each individual characteristic of each delivery. I know of some deliveries that have double the drop points but take less time! Every delivery is unique and GPS will assist you in that. It also recognises diversity. (We all get old!!) 63 year old Ethel will take 4.5 hours to do 23 year old Johns 3.5 hour job! Get Ethel to do the GPS test as it must be set to your most acceptable diverse member of staff. In a communication from Allan Leigton to me he stated 'It would be unfair for these staff (the faster postmen) to be given additional tasks just because they are quicker than their counterparts' So you go by your slowest postman. If RM start throwing their rattles out the pram you then use diversity as your main argument and challenge them on it. We are not robots and our outdoor work will magnify diversity ten fold due to the very nature of our highly physical work in all weathers.
Hopethis has been helpful to start you off.
Cheers

most of my walk. Garages were built to the far end of pavements, and everyone parks their cars on the paths, so I have to walk down past the cars, onto the roads, and back up again.Add to that gaining access to flats, which can take time.
untying gates etc. EVERY walk should be testes by a HUMAN BIENG,not computers. In our office, if you say you cannot do it in the time they always come back with, 'well'such and such.did part of this walk twenty years ago, and he managed in this time!!!!!!

Re: Georoute help
Rennie, excellent post, is there any chance of us getting hold of the communication which states "'It would be unfair for these staff (the faster postmen) to be given additional tasks just because they are quicker than their counterparts' So you go by your slowest postman." That would be invaluable.

Re: Georoute help
The communication in question has already been used at national level and it has already wiped the smug smiles off many managers faces! The only trouble is the fact the email was sent in 2005 during SDD etc. We now all know job and finish is as good as buried and I know RM, especially Leighton want to distance themselves from the quote for obvious reasons. I also put my neck on the line over this email which at the time was put to good effect. RM didn't like the fact their leader was contradicting area and local managers. I truly believe Job and finish was 'officially' scrapped because of these issues and it effectively gave us the upper hand in negotiations. That doesn't mean we can't still use the comments but I would rather have nothing to do with it directly as it always comes back to me. But I am more than happy for national officers to use the email in any negotiations as it is on record. The quote was even used in the media! Sorry can't be more helpful!
