Now lets look at Pay and Mod has it really been as bad as everyone thought. Certainly in the areas I repersent I come from Phase 3 and outdoor asorbition has not been introduced. Instead we took the money in pay rises and the £800 in two payment collleague share and phase 2 without doing very much at all other than agree a level of savings. Which has been a yearly proposal from mangement for the last 25 years. Moreover our members have achieved 4 day weeks and 9 day fortnights and increases in earnings.
Dingo,i'm afraid there lies possibly your one flaw on here. You are correct with the above.
In my office,we have never flexed, never covered for each other, only one bod was moved to another office for 1 day,in fact i'm probaly going to earn more this year than i have ever with Royal Mail. And i work a day less.

But that is US,everywhere else it's a nightmare.Ok it's not 100% rosy here,but a hell of a lot better than most.

Some branches have f****d up with pegasus, some branches seem week, they're getting steam rolled.
While i don't think it's 100% right to blame HQ,something has gone wrong somewhere where branches have seemed to have either ignored them or have not had enough help.
Now there are 6 National Officers and 17 members of the PEC there cannot control what happens in each Branch. That is what the Branch is there for and what a Branch recives a rebate from Headquaters for.
Questions need to be asked why these branches have previously or are now f***ing up.
Something needS to change with the above quote,or it's going to get to unimaginable proportions.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Well in my experience there seems to be a sort of "cadre" who run some branches as a personal playground for union activities without due regard for the membership - and that is because not enough people are involved in union activities and members are treated like mushrooms - I can't remember the last time I had any communication from the branch that wasn't an election address - minutes of meetings are non-existent and any regard to what should happen is paid scant regard and I believe that to be because they don't want to rock the boat.

Unfortunately we have had feedback that a number of units have been seduced into either making agreements or have allowed managers to ballot our members, thereby undermining the agreed industrial relations framework.
There we f***ing go,from jocks scotland num2 branch thread.

Mr Dingo, you same to think you no me with the information you have just supply here but you dont really you only assume you do, would this be the same assumption that you think you have with the grass root level the membership, just because you meet branch officials from up and down the country our they really intouch with the membership, some would disagree?

Anyway you mention what the union has done with pay and what a humble postie earns over a nine year period was it not Wardie said in 2005-6 by the year 2008-9 everybody would earn £400.00 a week,so this years pay deal so be some where around that figure- if my sums our right thats a mere £16.00 pound pay rise a year, what has the union given up to get this? as you say you serve you time on delivery that was 25years ago, try it now put a delivery bag on your back work for one month some how I dont think so?

As you said nine years what the union has achived in pay deals plus a few gimmes to the membership a day off here and a day there off, check again the membership our still working overtime on their days off because the pay deals our so great ? yeah your really intouch with the membership?

If my memory serves me rite, was it not nine members of the PEC that decided to accept the employers last pay deal insome other union building, I think they where called the dirty 9 for accepting this pay deal after what the membership had given up being on the picket line, yeah I forgot your really intouch with the membership?

Where you one of the dirty 9 that accepted the pay deal? You say it doesnt happen round your way in what the employer gets away with up and down the country, would I be right in saying you dont even come from the region you would be classed more of a visitor?

talks cheap whiskeys dearer, Mr Dingo I like you dont have any axe to grind either.

dingo wrote:Irish staff your right i have not done a delivery for some time but I served my appernctiship in deliveries and I dont think you have to still do a delivery to have a view. What I can assure you is I meeting the members regually across a wide area of the country and I also meet local reps and Branch secs and Area Reps so believe I am in touch. I believe also that its about providing leadership in all roles across the union and where I come from we do that well and we stick together.

We also support other workers in their plight and stuggle and I was marching with you along the falls road and shankill road a couple of years. I was also invited to your do in the fish market so i would say i have no axe to grind with anyone. For me its always about policy.

From Headquaters down we all have made mistakes and I am as critacal of Headquaters as anyone when needed. But I have to say some of the neagative commnets from some posters on here you wouldt believe this union has done anything to look after the members over the last few years.

Its time you took the blinkers off. In 1999 OPGs were on £201.63 National Rate in 2009 ( without this years pay round) OPGs are on £347.04. Thats an increase of £145.41 in 9 years. Now in anyones view that is significant progress on pay.

Further more the phase 4s joint working parties which everyone feared have as usual gone down a roadblock.

With regards to pensions that was not part of pay and mod and is something which should have been tackled by the leadership and branchs but I attended two northampton briefings where the majority of branchs wanted to wait for the Hooper report to be published rather than be balloted over pensions.

Now if you want a national strike then start lobby your branch committee , agm and they in turn can start lobbying headquaters. I am not the enemy nor is the leadership . The constant blame culture in this union is whats holding everyone back. Sometimes I just wish we all show leadership instead of passing the buck and blaming someone else thats so easy but gets us no where.

Its times we all show that we are going to fight the Governments plans and Royal Mails slash and burn policies at every level across the CWU in a united way. The members I repersent are up for that are you ??
Why do so many Area, and above, Reps have this obsession with money? :confused
There is far more at stake than what we get in our back pocket you know. :hmmmm

Although I applaud the fact that, as linkinpark pointed out: You are one of the very few high ranking Reps, who are willing to discuss these things on a Public Forum like this. But you are so far out of touch with the "Grass Roots", that you may as well be on another Planet.

We have seen the systematic errosion of our once great service, over several years. During the Strike in 2007, all we heard about in the News, was that we were fighting over wages. Yes, of course it was one of the issues involved. But what about the long list of conditions?!?!? :arrrghhh :mad :arrrghhh
There are more important things in life than money! :mad :hmmmm

As for the Pay and Modernisation Agreement specifically. We've seen Duties go already, and we've been told to expect more. These Duties are being covered by Agency Staff, and by doing "other meaningful work" and covering for each other.

As I'm sure you're aware: They are planning to close several MCs and move the RDC in the North West. Have you any idea of how much trouble that's causing. Especially for the staff at Crewe MC?

Obviously, it's important for us to be paid fairly. But if it comes to a choice between money, or jobs, and working conditions. Do you really think that we are Mercenary enough to take the money? :no no

Now this rant isn't aimed just at you personally. It's aimed at all the Senior Reps who don't take the time to find out what things are like "at the Coal Face". There are at least a couple of Area Reps who do, do that. But most either don't, or don't pay enough attention to the Members if they do.

I'm lucky, in that my Area Rep does try to get to our Meetings. He also spend a lot of time coming to talk to us on the Picket Lines in '07. As a result, he's far more in touch with what's going on than you appear to be. I don't know how he finds the time. But he does it. :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause

What for, the national strike you advocate in another thread?
The CWU can't get solid support when it's issues affecting RM staff and only for 48 hours, so why do you think all RM staff will strike just to show Gordy we ain't happy with the New World Order?

:nana On balance, un the past few years, the union have not been supported(at least in our office) because most ofthe strikes a few years back, were on rather paltry issues--and should have been fixed out without the need for strikes, and each time we came back, our conditions were worse that BEFORE the action. This time, I feel if the unions stopped bieng so indecisive, and showed clearly who's
side they were on.(By not suggesting we accept this, that and the next thing!)They would get the support they want.

There is a saying that the only thing you get sitting on the fence in any dispute is splinters.

I have more respect for someone who thinks Royal Mail is right and points out why, than those that say RM is wrong but won't do anything about it, or even worse, give up without a struggle.

Well TrueBlue, sadly, Theres alot out there with no moral fiber that have given up before the fight has even started,
It makes me sad to have to say it, But in my office you just cannot make most of them understand that if they don't stand by one another and fight, that ultimatly we are all doomed.
