A LETTER FOR YOUR MP

A very polite letter - a far more polite letter than what i would write had my MP not already added his name to the EDM. Isn't it about time that as a loyal supporter of the Labour party, the CWU demands to know why individual MP's haven't added their names to the EDM (whoever that may apply to) and politely inform them that beyond the the official political fund that each branch has to donate to their labour MP that any additional contributions will be as a response to their support for the CWU members!

Ive sent this to the eight Conservative MP'S in my branch area. Our two Labour MP'S are both part of the government so therefore can not sign. However its worth writing to them as government MP'S can write to appropiate secretary of state to express a opinion.

The Future of Royal Mail
The report published by Richard Hooper and his team make it very clear that Royal Mail finances are extremely non transparent. The report also called on the government to take on responsibility for the pension deficit
There is no real evidence that a selloff in order to bring capital into Royal Mail is needed. A massive loan was given to RM at commercial rates of interest to be paid back over five years, this once paid back in full and relieving RM of the pension deficit payments will free up a enormous amount of cash each year for investment. Ensuring RM competitors pay a fair price to RM for access will again have a positive effect on RM finances. With banks and the car industry receiving massive amounts of funds, then it’s fair to say there is plenty of funds for Royal mail should it need them. What is so wrong with the taxpayer lending the money and making a profit instead of private companies? The lack of transparency in royal mail accounts makes it impossible for there to be any evidence that a sell off is needed. It is clear that RM can have a healthy future and remain 100% in public ownership.
Therefore I ask you to support EDM 428 titled Royal Mail (see below) by signing up to it and to ask you to vote against the Government on their proposals when they are developed and put before parliament. A headlong rush to sell off Royal mail to the highest bidder is neither wanted nor needed. Give Royal Mail the chance to become the public sector success story it once was.

If the government aren't really careful, they could end up with a complete national strike if all the differing disputes merge into one.

If the government aren't really careful, they could end up with a complete national strike if all the differing disputes merge into one.

The more letters the more pressure there is on MP'S to sign up to EDM's and listen to/act upon concerns of their constituents.

We are a Union of many many individuals not just a few people at the top, the CWU and the trade union movement is not and should not be about those at the top doing this and that and everybody else sitting on thier backsides doing nothing.

CWU HQ do send out letters/emails to every MP but this needs to be backed up by lots of letters/emails to be as effective as possible.

MP's will usually say they will only reply to letters from their constituents.
Of course your Branch can also write to them, and they may reply if the
Branch is affiliated to their Constituency Labour Party.

Then branch should post this letter with headed paper explaining the reasons why the Communications Workers Union need our support more than ever.

They have done mate,they want members to also do it,the more they get the more they should take note and sign the EDM
