JOB INTERVIEW

I have an interview next week for a part time delivery job(though I am not sure I want the job after reading some of the posts on here!!!)
As quite a nervous interviewee I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the interviews are as informal as the RM website suggest or are they tough?

Any advice would be appreciated.

It was one of the easier interviews I have been on. However it is not "easy" be confident not arrogant and research Royal Mail. There is a lot going on at the moment and if your drop these into appropriate points it should help.

When looking round the forums don't forget that the job has changed over the last year and the changes have not been consistent or agreed in some places. Also that some have been doing this job for 20+ years, some for 5 or 6 (me ) and some less than that, most don't like the changes not because the job is harder, but because we joined to provide a service and we think that RM have cut back on the service principle. However, most of us still like the job a great deal which is why we stay.

I had my interview 3 months after starting , I had to get relief for my duty so that I could go to my interview for those reasons my interview was pretty easy (plus they really needed the staff).

Really depends who your interview is with, just relax and be yourself ask plenty of questions. With relation to the job itself, despite what you might read on here there are worse jobs out there ( at least I think there must be ). It's a very physical job and if you're not fit you will be soon if successful. We're under a lot of pressure at the moment and the job is certainly challenging but if you like being outside then it's a great job. Best of luck with the interview and if you get the job give it a couple of months before you make up your mind. It will be tough but might be the best job you ever had.

Despite all the changes I completely endorse this statement. I started work at 16.5 years old (not including Saturday jobs then 14) and have done loads of different jobs in the forces and outside - yet this is still the best job I have ever had.

GROOSTER,yes mate,despite all the moaning and groaning,and we do seem to put up with a hell of a lot lately,it is a great job.
New starters have it harder as at times they are pushed from pillar to post most days,but give it time.

Bottom line is that setting aside all the winging that goes on in Royal Mail, the pay & benefits are very good and its not a bad company to work for!

I have to say it was one of the easiest initerviews I have ever been to, but all they're looking for really is someone who is trustworthy, reliable and flexible.

Not rocket science...

I remember the interview as the manager just going through a list of standard questions and jotting down the replies, and I don't remember any of the questions being difficult. Just be positive, try to remember the importance of honesty and safeguarding the mail and make it clear that you can easily get to work on time every day.

had interview in october 08 and i joined in december 08

i was put on the waiting list. had to wait for over a month for them to ring me saying that ive got the job.

One thing I would say is to do your research on the company but by coming on here it shows you've taken an interest in the company etc so when they ask the usual "why do you want to work for RM?" It's the usual answer of large, successful company with dedicated staff, excellent pay and benefits system etc etc blah blah and mention you've been reading about the company on the internet regarding the modernisation agreement and it all seems very interesting and challenging.

Basically, lie like I did j/k but it's a case of telling them what they want to hear like any interview.

Anyway, I really enjoy my job and love working for RM. Of course we have a whinge but it's still a bloomin great place to work especially compared to some places I've worked and there's opportunities to be had if you want them.
