Don't Lose Out on Your Entitlement to Claim Your 2002/2003 Children's Tax Allowance
If you have children born between 1986 and 2003, then you may be eligible for an unclaimed tax allowance.
The year before tax credits were introduced there was a different non means tested allowance available which was never advertised by the Inland Revenue so you probably didn't know it existed. It is called the "Children's tax allowance 2002/2003".
You can still claim this £520 allowance before 31 January 2009. To claim you must be able to answer yes to the following four questions.
You have a child born between 6 April 1986 and 5 April 2003
The child has lived with you for all or part of 2002/2003
You worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002/2003
You or your partner earned more than £6000 in the year 2002/2003
Unfortunately, you can no longer claim for the 2002/2002 period, only the 2002/2003 until 31 January 2009. You can't claim twice and if your final tax code on your April 2003 P60 ended in 'H' or 'T' you have already been paid. Your marital status is irrelevant. Claiming does not effect current or future entitlement to working or Child Tax Credit.
If you are unsure and want to check your entitlement, then call the Revenue and Customs Help line 0845 366 7800.
For more information and to obtain an application form, visit HMRC - 11CTC - Claim for Children's Tax Credit. Your claim must be submitted by 31 January 2009.
Share this information with your friends and family to ensure they do not miss out on their entitlement.
