"i might as well spend that money on my house that I'm paying £80.00 a week for.
this is my home and when i'm old and very grey and all my bits and peaces are sagging, i will still be in a local authority house and my children will understand..
"

Don't be so sure of that pal.

With LA housing more and more in demand and people being repossessed from their homes (find that funny do you :evil/mad ) and will never buy again you might find that when your kids leave then your 3 bedroom LA house may go to a family that really need it and you could find yourself moved to a grotty flat.

As I said earlier He who laughs first laughs last!!!!!!

Well my mortgage is more than the value of my house. My mortgage rate is slowing dropping but it seems to drop about about 4 months after the bank of england drops it rates. We never seem to have enough for food shopping now as we spend alot more on gas and electric. Hopefully next month will be easier as the 1.5% rate drop takes affect on my mortgage. We will not be going on holiday this year which is dissapointing as we both like a week away.
I have a new rule of never paying full price for an item which does not go out for date for atleast 2 years. If an item is on offer then I buy alot of it. I also check http://www.vouchercodes.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; before buying anything.
I think things will be ok for us but who knows what the future holds.

It seems that all has to cut back on things but i don't believe people of royal mail do

Ok here's a thing for ya,just making up the figures so it's easier to see.

Before credit crunch, normal living and bills,hp,credit and wat nots, just basic run of the mill stuff i pay every week/month,lets say i'm left with £100.00 a week for food and luxurys.

Now credit crunch, things have gone up like gas/electric,i'm still paying the above as normal and i'm left with £80.00 a week.
So that's £80.00 a week for food and luxurys,BUT they're taking the piss with the price of food now,and so much for f***ing sales in the shops!so i have to cut back, and as for luxurys!
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

If your post on the Credit Crunch is meant to basically remind us we're quite lucky in that we work for Royal Mail and have better job security than most people out there, I'd have to agree with that. But don't get too cocky. Pride comes before a fall and all that. If Mandelson gets his way, which he will IMHO, regardless of whichever of TNT or DHL gets to buy 33% of Royal Mail, they are going to want seats on the RM Board, and a commercial return on their investment. That means accelerating the modernisation programme, which may lead to the closure of the site you work at. Be careful what you wish for.

Anyway, to deal with two of your little gloats ....

1. Has your council rent gone down this year ? My mortgage payments have fallen loads with the cuts in interest rates taking the base rate from 5% to 1.5%. But they aren't going down through Labour's successful handling of the economy, are they ??

2. Who the hell would have thought that a Labour government would succeed in part-privatising Royal Mail, something even Thatcher thought was a step too far ???

Thing is not how it will effect us now but our future's trillion's of Pound's of debt has to be paid back at some point and with all the goodwill in the land it is going to be hard for all concerned!. We have all been lead down the primrose path once too often by failed government of which he :mfo is apart of it is no surprise to me that the (NEW LABOUR GOVERNMENT) has failed too deliver it's promises to the masses with people like him and BROWN and BLAIR at the helm!. It is such a shame that all the hope's and dream's of a nation can be dashed in the need for cash for the greedy banker's and to prop up the capitalist system which has failed us all and now we must all pay the price of a failed government and a failed system!.

I understand I properbly don't make myself understood that well, hence the reason to apologise if I offended anyone, Its a daily thing at our unit, however I believe you make a good point and agree.
Unfortunatly my rent has stayed the same, however I did believe it may have gone down, I will have to wait until March to see how i

Rent is dead money, my House is mortaged with 5 years left to go, I brought my House as a Homenot an Investment property, also the longer you have your maortgage the less you owe and when its paid off, you owe no more, no rent no nothing, there is the bills of course, I will have spare money and the security of a Home that is mine totally.

Credit crunch is only an issue if you are in a line of work that is at risk, City jobs, banking, manufacturing, retail.

the jobs least at risk are Civil service, Royal Mail, Utilities, Armed services.

these are just examples, of course nothingis certain which is why I want to pay my Mortgage off early.

Makes me laugh how you assume that everyone who owns thier own home done it to make a profit. I purchased my HOME for my family and myself to live in, for now and for the future, I didnt borrow more than i could afford and, probably to your dismay, my mortgage is very affordable, i support my family, and suprisingly, on a postmans wage, i live a lovely life.
It makes me laugh how some people take pleasure out of the idea that people could lose thier homes. yeah lets all laugh at that. when are you starting your "lets all laugh at cancer" thread.

Would just like to say.. When we come out of the womb the world does not owe us a living!! Nor does it owe us a home! We are born to make a life for ourselves.. Each and everyone of us! To have a safety net in society is for the unfortunate and disadvantaged in our society.. And thats good to know! Dont ever knock anyone for doing the best for their families and supporting themselves! Just as long as you dont s**t on others to do that!!! Like certain others I could mention :lfo :cfo :mfo .. The key is to help and lookout for eachother!

Just a thought, about something I believe I heard or had a dream about.
To make the economy move around, why don't home owners rent there home out and those renting there home rent some where else.
You may have couples out there in there family home and the kids are out of school but still living at home or the couple are on there own living in a 3/4 bedroom house paid for, but the house at the moment is not worth much. So if they were to rent there home out and rent a smaller property, I feel those people would in theory be quids in.
Like I say just a thought even though how silly it my read. :cuppa
