official industrial action

Post by marky »

is official industrial action now a thing of the past. seems so to me. this union is now just a talking shop.
why is it that when ever rm do every dirty trick in the book that this union always wants to get round the table and have talks.
is the beer and sarnies so good.
rm can do anything they like now because they know they are fighting a toothless tiger that wants to sit around and lick its paws for self preservation.
while rm use bully boy tactics on its work force this union is now using words, speeches, propaganda, talking shops to fight back with. what good is that! offices, reps, members are feeling the full force of rm while our union sits and thinks of more words to throw at them.don't forget it was this union that gave rm a stick to beat you with, the members wanted to fight and made that clear but the self preservationists of this union wanted to sit and talk and lie down and cave in.
its now time to punch first and ask the questions later or is it to late.

just remember next time your under attack from your manager give him a copy of pk's report or a blog or a speech might just put him asleep and you can slip away. :whistle

hi, i must say that i agree with industrial action, and i think that we have tried to talk to get or points over and agreed ( work force ) but it is time to go back to the days of action, with walk outs because enough is enough, and we are being taken for a ride big time now, with managers getting above the stations, pushing there luck to get the results that make us suffer in the long run, and big chiefs at RM laughing all the way to the bank, with our money, a lot of us still like to work for the company but are fed up with the way everything allways comes back on the workforce, so enough is enough lets have a big show of action and get back our basic rights , thank you the final push

I can only really talk for my office, but IF EVERYONE did the job properly, started at their offical time, took their meal relief, didn't use their cars etc etc then the mail would soon start to backlog,
the reason a lot of people in my office are against industrial action is that 9 times out of 10 we've came back to a worse deal, lost day(s) pay for nothing.
The ability to defeat RM Management is from the inside, you do the job properly, by the book, they can't touch you when the mail is piling up around them,
They start to bully/harrass you..take a note of it and report it
we should use all the tools in our box before the last resort which is a strike. :hmmmm

Depends what kind of IA people want, you're not going to get a 'National' one for local problems.
2 areas at the mo are considering it though, areas have to start the ball rolling.
Royal Mail managers in north London are provoking possible strike action by introducing 35-hour contracts for new workers, instead of the 40-hour contracts that are agreed with the postal workers’ CWU union.

Workers at the Upper Edmonton delivery office are now preparing to ballot for strikes in a move that may see other delivery offices in north London joining the action.
Several delivery offices in Oxford are preparing for possible industrial action in protest at attempts by Royal Mail to impose changes to working practices without negotiation with the union. This is a clear breach of national and local agreements.
In the news forum.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Offices in N I have new workers on 20 hour contracts! downgraded full-time duties to delivery only, this has been done with the blessing of union officials. :no no
i keep telling you royal mail can do what they like. sick of saying it toothless union officials.

You know what brother i am at a loss about the collective brain thing. To work well collectively we should be singing from the same hyme sheet, and alls that seems to happen is we were stuck with local aggreements that RM have exploited to the fullest in some offices in the past and are now comming for those offices that have not signed up for the shoddy type of deals imposed on poorly or unrepresented offices and beating them with those same deals. I am enough of a realist that i see there must be some local play one way or another to make the system work in any given area but the major part of the working framework should come from above from both the CWU and RM with a small ammount of tinkering at office level not a small amount of imput from above and wholesale change at office level on an ad hoc basis. Our own leaders do their best to diswade us from being collective by not engaging the membership properly or even communicating about national stuff. When was the last time we had a questionair from HQ asking what we want. They (HQ) have always claimed to be looking after mine and my mates aspirations and yet have never asked us what they are! Why is that? Why are we still affiliated to "New Labour" They aint my party but i wouldnt mind so much if the workers party cared about US but they dont! I wouldnt mind so much if they cared about the Trade Union Movement but they dont! Are we asked about these kind of things? No we are not.
So maybe we should start by finding out what the membership want and expect not what HQ want us to have. After all if my Sisters and Brothers all wanted pay and job cuts and an extra 5 years of work i would not like it but it would be democratic wouldnt it so then i would just have to shut up. So maybe a wide ranging questionair with simple questions not the loaded and confusing ones that come from HQ about all the issues would be a start.

Personally, I think they've gone from one extreme to another. At one time, we had to have "one size fits all" agreements. Now that's great for the majority of agreements. But sometimes it can cause unneccessary problems, when there are operational differrences. For example: The needs of Delivery Posties, aren't identical to those in MCs, RDCs, etc.. The fundamentals are the same. But it's important to be able to "fine tune" things, to make them more effective in different environments.

However: All these Local Agreements, are taking things much too far the other way. The disparity between different Offices, are growing already. Just look at some of the discussions on here, to see what I mean. What we should (in my opinion) have, is the ability to make MINOR changes for different sections, to get the best working conditions and service, possible. But most importantly, keep the fundamentals. Like Wages, Job security, Attendance Procedure, etc.. The same, across the board.

All these Local Agreements, are undermining our position terribly. I may be being overly pessamistic. But I feel that we are getting much too fragmented, to have much control over our own future.

What about the rest of RM?

Post by andy2007 »

Although doing the job properly will be effective in Deliveries. It won't neccessarily make much difference elsewhere. I don't know about the MCs, but in the RDCs, everyone is already doing the job properly. Apart from occasionally bailing their Collegues out, if they get a bit behind. Besides, doing the job properly shouldn't be seen as a protest. It should be the NORM!

But there are other alternatives, which have proved effective in the past: Overtime bans, would have a major effect, as there are so many people on Part Time Contracts, who actually work full time. The entire indoor SAWN Operation is staffed with S/A, so that would grind to a halt. And I think it's safe to assume that MCs rely heavily on Overtime too. :hmmmm

Then there's the Go Slow. That's always proved effective in the past.

I'm sure that there's other ideas out there. Striking isn't the only way to fight back. :hmmmm

RM have out-thought the CWU there; those 1 or 5 hour per week workers are going to earn virtually nothing under an O/T ban, but the F/T workers will still receive a week's wages. That's too divisive to be workable, as the P/Ts aren't going to go for that.

In my MC it's next to impossible now to get OPGs in on O/T. If there was an official O/T ban I reckon the management would do what they do most weeks, and just phone the local agency for more staff.

Then there's the Go Slow. That's always prved effective in the past.
:hmmmm Back in the 1960s maybe.
