New Year Collapsing
We are having 4 walks collapsed at the moment, and none of it is agreed with the union and to be honest if managers would talk to the union we would be happy on light days to collapse some but they are doing every single day! Its crazy, well people are getting very anoyed with it so maybe they will learn to stop coming in early and stop using there cars!

Also has anybody got any sheets they could put on here about the agreement that walk collapsing is meant to be disscused with the union.

Our union rep seems to be allowing it to happen, although he makes sure he doesn't have any time to do his portion.

Re: New Year Collapsing
We had 10 odd walks collapsed and put on to others about 8 months ago, and you would think that the early birds/roadrunners would learn from this and do things properly to stop any further tampering, but the same group of people stil come in at 4:30 and still run around thier walks and still cum back to the office before any one else when they have finished thier dutys, its bollocks copz they make every one else look bad. I cut off on a walk once (2 bags) and i was confronted by a manager who told me that "the postman who usually does it never has a problem" i replied with well i dont get in at 2am and run around my walk. never went any further but these people are killing us. these same people sit on thier frames sleeping when they have thrown off the mail, and are up early on sorting because they have done all thier work and are bagged up and ready atleast half an hour before everyone else, its a joke. we asked the dum if he could stop people coming in before our start time and he told us its a bit "draconian" to stop people coming in early. i asked if they were insured when they come in early and he come back with the standard manager quote "i will get back to you"rockypostie wrote:We are having 4 walks collapsed at the moment, and none of it is agreed with the union and to be honest if managers would talk to the union we would be happy on light days to collapse some but they are doing every single day! Our Dim Dum has re-introduced job and knock on the QT,it was easy to work out because when all the staff played the game of doing the job as it should be done it cost him shed loads, now you have the old ones doing it again, coming in early, not taking breaks.running round like headless chickens you name it they are doing it.The best bit is coming they want more hours out and he has the best excuse going, all the staff are finishing before their duties so we can lose the hours, when they bleet i can say well what do you expect you have only done it for yourselves.Whats the old saying you reep what you have sown.

fair play to our union rep, he takes no hassles off management, just play's the fun games with them, discussion;s etc, then just tells them sorry can not find any savings for you,
warns everyone to do the job properly and some do, it's only a few that's not listening,

cause they (HQ) started this sh*t race to the bottom with Billy and Dave’s crap 2007 (or before!) deal of "oh lets leave it to the local reps to sort out." May they rot in h*ll for what they have done to CWU members and the Trade Union Movement as a whole. Contempt springs to mind but the f*ckers don’t return emails or nothing so I sit seething, and I do remember the sell-outs.

I understood that under phase 3 you only absorbe a walk if you can. Its seems to me that the idiots running around and finishing early should then be sent out with the bulk of the collapsed walk, shouldn t they?Grantyboy wrote:We had 10 odd walks collapsed and put on to others about 8 months ago, and you would think that the early birds/roadrunners would learn from this and do things properly to stop any further tampering, but the same group of people stil come in at 4:30 and still run around thier walks and still cum back to the office before any one else when they have finished thier dutys, its bollocks copz they make every one else look bad. Re: New Year Collapsing
Problem in our office is managers don;t care how early you finish as long as you take your extra 20 mins. The usual offenders can be home sitting having a cup of tea by 11.30 but thats ok that I'm still working cause they did a few more doors. Case in point the other day light traffic so most of my duty lapsed, I took extra packets to make my time up but still finished about an hour early, so back to the office for indoor duties. Whilst I'm working away doing indoor crap till my time at least 3 -4 other posties came back and buggared off home. When I asked why they weren't getting indoor work I was told that they had done thier duty and there lapsing so they were finished. I don't agree with the end of job and knock but why should I have to work till my finish time when others aren't.

Remember there has to be a pay off for using cars. Those people have to finish earlier to pay towards using their own vehicles. If they didn't finish earlier, who would do it?

Re: New Year Collapsing
I can tell you straight now what your real problem is. If you lot are finishing at the times you state. When it comes to the next round of jobs cuts you will not have an argument. The line manager will report to the DOM what time you are finishing now and your office will be cut to pieces. You can then put the blame at the feet of those that are coming back at 11.30 after doing some extra work.ar26 wrote:Problem in our office is managers don;t care how early you finish as long as you take your extra 20 mins. Re: New Year Collapsing
Lapsing of duties should be planned at the weekly resource meeting (based on the forecast traffic figures), the other part is covering for one another which is if someone is off short term sick then their duty is split up and everyone else delivers it (if there is time available).greynut wrote:I can tell you straight now what your real problem is. You were in to work. I thought lapsing only happened when you are short of staff. You picked that duty, I assume, therefore I believe that you cant just be taken off it to lapse? Is your line manager cooking the books?

I get that. But why was HIS duty lapsed if HE was in. And why then was he made to work later than everyone else.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Lapsing of duties should be planned at the weekly resource meeting (based on the forecast traffic figures), the other part is covering for one another which is if someone is off short term sick then their duty is split up and everyone else delivers it (if there is time available).greynut wrote:I can tell you straight now what your real problem is. Re: New Year Collapsing
Our office lapses problem duties, My duty is a new duty that was brought in to cover some excess streets which had been removed from other duties and to serve a new devolpement. Over the years they have added another 3 new housing devolpements in the same area. Problem is now all the houses are finished it's went from a 2 and a bit hour duty with packets to a 6.5 hour duty plus the packets ( average 3-4 letters per house and they all shop on the internet) 8 -9 drop bags a day plus the bigger packets that don't fit in the drop bags. Managment thought that if it's lapsed then it would leave me with a sub 3.5 hour duty which would give me time to do the packets without overtime. Problem is it needs to be really quiet for everyone to take thier lapsing in which case I usually end up doing packets in the surrounding duties to take me up to time ( no permament packet delivery people in our office usually done in overtime). If it's not really quiet then I'm left with most of it. I totally agree that the folk sprinting round or on really quiet duties are in for a shock when the revisions come through but it's always the same ones who get away with it and have done for years. In my mind if you're a manager and you see someone finishing this early then you have to ask questions and if required change the duty to give them more to get them nearer there finish time. Like everything else they aren't changing it till the revisions come in. I have to say most posties in our office are struggling with thier duties and it's the minority that are finishing early but obvoiusly that reflects on the whole office.
