Yes, I got mine a couple of weeks ago. The soles are even taller than the old ones. At this rate, we'll have '70's style platform shoes, in a couple of years!

But seriously: I've not had them long enough to know whether they will last any longer than the rubbish they gave us last time.

Best laugh I've had in ages,platform shoes! They will go well with the clowns trousers we have had to wear for the past few years.They are all obviously large mens hacked down to fit anyone-they are so poorly cut, every time you take a step they creep up the leg and make everbody look knocked kneed!And remember the dreadful Elmer Thud type winter
hat, and atrocious floppy summer hats?

Perhaps they are making the shoes 'taller' so they can add another row to the top of your frame

Not quite so funny. We were told last year they are thinking of giving us revoloving frames--I imagine eventually they will have one sorter prep up three walks, on the same frame!!! i remember when we got our last new ones, they are
a lot wider than the old ones,-sometimes when prepping up, at speed ,I feel I am sending messages using the old semaphore system, with arms flapping wildly all over the place!!!!!!

Stokes you have hit the nail on the head. This is very true, the full-timers will prep on the revolving frame 3-4 duties and as all mail will be walk seq its a straight throw in! Just thinking that arms will get sore doing top row solid! Part-timers just come in and lift the mail then. Part-time might be an ok job when it all comes in.

I found an old pair of boots in my wardrobe and the difference between them and the Magnums is like day and night, even in icy conditions they stick like glue to the ground and after the initial breaking in are far more comfortable and supportive.

I say bring back the previous issue footware before we all end up as cripples.

Its an absolote joke that RM know damn fine the Magnums are downright dangerous in wet and icy condtions yet continue to issue them, I started wearing my own Dr Martens instead but the DOM didn't like it so I had to go back to the Magnums. Pathetic.

The unions should step in here and spend some money to have them tested by an independent company, or
somebody should send them to one of those consumer programmes-----items of protective clothing supplied Must be up to the job--

now on my 3rd pair in 6 weeks they keep falling apart

Good grief! I thought that I had problems, when mine only lasted 4 Months (held together by insulation tape for the final week). Still, it doesn't help, that I ordered the new ones in December.

It's possible. I know that the previous type of Magnums were replaced, because of the number of people slipping in them. It's worth getting it investigated.

I've certainly found the new ones to be much better on ice than the old ones. But then again, I have the Magnum Safety Boots (toe cap). So the sole is probably different, as it was on the old ones.

If I were you, I'd ask Brothermagrew about this. As he knows a lot more about H&S than I do.

I got a new pair of shoes, in the box was a paper saying do not wear from new on wet ground, and presumably that would be icy - I hadn't a problem on wet ground but when I was testing a cycle both feet slipped off the pedals. I asked one or two cycle users if they had experienced anything similar and none had - I also asked the H&S rep if anyone had approached him about a problem and no one had - so I must assume it was either a one off under a given set of circumstances or it was the pedals - I've tested cycles since and had no problem.

Do the same as me. go to your doctors and let them examine your feet. get a line to say you cannot wear the company shoes. You have to pay for this, but you can then go out and but more suitable footwear, and the company will pay.

Out of the last two pairs of RM Magnums that I have received there has also been enclosed the wee white piece of paper entitled Your new Royal Mail footwear with pertinent instructions. The two bits of paper although basically the same, have slightly differing variations in their wording of text. Anyone interested in what they say and how they differ I will post if enough interest shown.
