Smoke alarms.

Post by POSTMAN »

There must be a dozen or so drops on my walk where i hear the 'beep' of the smoke alarms needing a new battery.
How these people can live with this is beyond me,i mean if i can hear it outsid a closed front door what the hell can they hear.
Dangerous ground me thinks, you guys got any?
err drops as above not....well you know.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hi, report it to your local Fire Brigade, they'll usually go out and have a word with those concerned explaining they are there for thier safety and if required might replace the batteries for the occupants.

Could be that the property is empty or the occupants are away.
The flat above mine is empty and the smoke alarm was going off every night last month.
You could hear it outside. The woman in the adjoining flat managed to get hold of the
flat's owner and he arranged for it to be fixed the same day.

On a slightly different note.

Has anyone else ever set off a burglar alarm because the customer has the sensors too close to the letterbox and it picks up movement when the letters are delivered?

I must be good, happened 5 times to me now, from two different drops.

I once accidently set off the intruder alarm at the sub post office inside a newsagents shop I deliver to at about 7am one Saturday morning :d'oh! There were no PO staff in at that time and the newsagents staff had no access to the PO or any way of turning it off turning it off. It was one of those alarms that are not only very loud outside the building but are designed to completely disorientate any intruders by being extremely loud and offensive to your ears inside the building. Believe me you did not want to stay in there with the noise it was making. The PO manager lived about 20 minutes drive away, once she had been got out of bed that is.
I made a polite apology and beat a hasty retreat :wave only to see that most of the neighbours were outside trying to find out what was going on :chuckle

Happens everyday on one of my drops - I put the mail in the box and 5 seconds later the alarm goes off. It does not matter how I put the letters through or even if I don't - I have put them partly through (not hanging out) to see if this would stop the alarm activating but yet it still goes off.

Yes, happened to me recently. Posted a few letters and a few seconds later off goes a (very loud) alarm.
What makes me laugh is nobody seemed to be bothered about it. My walk brings me back the other side of the road after about 20 mins and someone had just turned up (the owner).
I explained what had happened but they just seemed annoyed and said they would have to contact the alarm company to disable? a sensor.
Sorry mate only doing my job.......

Tell the fool to move the sensor, or turn the bloody thing down or get a box outside the house. It's 100% not your fault and its laughable he had an attitude with you.
