DAD Paul March says he has been let down by Royal Mail after vouchers he sent to his nephew for Christmas were stolen in the post.

Mr March, from Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough, posted £35 worth of Argos vouchers by recorded delivery to his nephew in Maidenhead - but the gift never arrived.

When he inquired with Royal Mail, he was told the item was “probably lost within their system”, but having contacted Argos, he was told that one of the vouchers had been used.

Mr March, an assistant practitioner at the University Hospital of James Cook, said: “I’m angry because my nephew lost out on his Christmas box.

“How many other kids or families have gone through similar circumstances and have sent things through the post hoping it was going to get there?

“I’ve been contacting Royal Mail about it since the beginning of the month. They say they have no evidence of it getting there and it’s probably lost within the system.

“They have apologised that it’s lost, but until they have solved the mystery as to where it is gone, they say there is not a lot they can do.”

Mr March, 39, posted the items on December 16 and was disappointed to hear at Christmas that the vouchers had not arrived.

After contacting Argos, he was told that one of his £10 vouchers had been spent in High Wycombe on an ink cartridge.

Paul, who is married to Lisa, said: “My point is that if Royal Mail are saying things are lost on the system, you have to ask - ‘Are they really?’

“I know that post does get lost due to the volume they are dealing with, but by paying recorded delivery, I thought it was a guarantee that it would get there.”

Fortunately Argos have now cancelled the remaining £25 in vouchers and have sent Mr March new vouchers.

A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said: “Unfortunately Mr March has not chosen the best service for posting his vouchers.

“Recorded delivery is only for the sending of documents or something whereby you need a signature upon receipt.

“Special delivery carries with it some level of compensation and it’s a guaranteed service that’s ideal for people sending items of any value.”

Why didn't they give Mr. March, the contact details for IB? :d'oh! :arrrghhh
The fact that one of the vouchers has been used, means that someone stole the vouchers. :hmmmm Thieves must be caught ASAP! We are in a position of trust, and can't afford to be soft, when it comes to catching the tiny minority of criminals. I just wish there was a better deterrant, so they would be less likley to steal in the first place.
