4 hour 15 min deliveries

Post by taxi4leighton »

royal mail want to ballot us on a 4hr 15mn delivery or a 3hr 30 mn one.i assume that both these would have the same amount of calls?. the difference being that the former would incorporate parcels and bulk calls and be done ,2 men sharing a van. and the latter would be delivery as at present?.could someone please clarify this point for me?.i would also be grateful for any feedback from anyone whose office has gone down this road.

They want that in my office but we've said no, so they'll either have to force it through by EA (and pay the consequences) or engage us properly and work things out, it's their choice.

Park and Loop has been introduced by RM as an implied progression under the Pay and Modernisation agreement and in truth the union don't want to engage because the agreement is so loose RM could take you out in a double decker with a load of donkeys tied to the back with a couple of panniers and a delivery span to make your eyes water - it has been agreed in our area as well as the 4hr 15 min delivery span and agreed by people who don't actually deliver.

Our office savings plan is to amalgamate 3 walks and have 2 posties and a van. Basically the posties will go from a 3,5 hour delivery to splitting 10.5 hours between 2 of them. We reckon the postie throwing this lot off will have to be parachuted into the middle of the frames that will surround him or her.
Strangely enough we have said NO. The reason I said strangely was that we struggled to speak because we were laughing so much. :Very Happy
It is the only thing that keeps us going at the moment, wondering what the next big idea will be.
When applying for a managers job is it a prerequisite that they have a lobotomy performed on them before they can start?
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

I just don't understand how management expect this to work, if there was that much spare time, why not send people out again when they come back early. Unless you're on a big estate, where you don't have to move the van much, I just don't see 2 people doing 3 peoples work.

It might work for management, as all they have to do is drink less tea, less watching us, and do some work.

We have been offered a similar deal, 2 in a van with each person doing 4.15 hrs walking and then the parcels for 2.5 walks. The carrot the gaffer is using to try and push this through is the offer of 8 VR's and 13 part time being made up to full time. The office actually had a preferance ballot and amazingly more than half the office thought this was a good deal, mind you there are a lot after the VR's, and almost half the office is part time, basically the gaffer has done a blinding job in splitting the office....

i work in darren's office and admit i want vr.however he isnt quite painting a true picture.we are a hub office.missorts from other office arrive by 8.30am.once the are cleared people rush out the office and start delivery.saturday and today most of them were finished between 2 and 2 and a half hours before the actual finishing time.in fact most days about a third of the office finishes well before their time ,while the other two-thirds of us work to our time most days and a few poor souls at the bottom of the seniority pick are over their time each day.the new duties would eliminate these anomalies as everybody would work to the same time in pairs.i also wonder why this [2 to a van] scheme is being implemented 6 miles down the road in another office with union approval!is it so bad that 13 part-timers gain about £70 per week and the guys who at the moment work about on average 32-34 hours, work their 40 hours like the rest of the office.people should read phase 2 of the last pay deal under enablers[innovations].this allows offices to work out schemes to suit their offices.two thirds of our office favour the new scheme however the rest are hiding behind the union hasnt appoved it so we cant do it.A UNION WHO'S SILENCE ON THE ISSUE IS DEFEANING!

And there Darren, in a nutshell, is the problem - there are so many start and finish times with variable hour contracts it is difficult to keep track of who's doing what. There is certainly a problem in what each member wants and there is no easy answer because solidarity is a thing of the past and every man makes a decision for whatever will suit him and not the greater good.
