The BT contract is a lucrative bit of business originally worth £5 million but I have been told that the contract has been extended and is now worth more. Although tracked items are not the sole preserve of BT they are being given preferential treatment - the re-delivery is a national thing as far as I am aware, collections take them out at tea time and a special visit, usually by the 9 o'clock special visits for the 7.15 to 8.00 a.m. but as I previously said there has only been a couple of third visits and not that many later visits.

Its simple really in terms of leaving packets
Either offical safe place as per customer contract or in line with written permission sitting on the managers desk and leave a card to let customer know.
Ignore notes on doors, they could be fake!!!!

Been informed @ W T L that B T TRACKED items should not be 739 upon arrival and you cannot get an answer it is up to you to decide if there is a safe place if you are unhappy take back to D O and hand back to Lino who will arrange to get it redelivered later upto a max of three attempts the Contract is worth 27million apparently and B T are prepared to lose 3% in losses???? thats how it works in our D O anyway

The whole job situation at RM these days makes it well dodgy to be leaving these things anywhere imo. Who decides what a safe place is if the item goes missing. Whats to prove you actually did leave it there apart from writing on a 739 card and putting that through letter box. Reckon everyone is best to leave a 739 as with every other packet unless customers have one of those parcel safe boxes you can buy that lock after shutting them. I know for sure my DOM wouldnt back the postman when a packet goes missing. You'd be suspended straight away.

It says 'customers safeplace instructions' i have never seen a safe place instruction on one.
It always says 'leave in a safe place' never something like 'in green bin','behind this or that'

Originally the instruction was not to 739 the item because I think BT and possibly RM assumed everyone was equipped with a PDA and BT was supposed to pick up on the non-delivery and send an instruction as to the disposal/delivery - obviously that didn't work because only some drivers had PDAs and so BT was unable to check its delivery status. I can only assume that is now the reason for subsequent deliveries. 739s are NOT supposed to be left because the customer could come in to collect it when it's already back out on delivery - the 739 should only be left on the last visit.

If RM tried to do anyone then unless there is evidence that the tracked item was left uncovered in public view then they would be in breach of their own rules and guidelines.

i thought collections drivers were timed on there route by having to scan a barcode inside each box as it was emptied
if they are having to make a detour to try and redeliver these items they are not going to keep to there timings
and how as in my office when it closes at 14.00 hours as no collections are done from it is this then possible
i say screw them....SDD is once over the ground so either 739 the item and take it back or take a chance of leaving it in a "safe place"....i know what choice i will be making :lfo :cfo :mfo

Some of you seem to be forgetting its part of the contract with BT to leave in a safe place, if we dont do that when appripiate then we risk them taking their work elsewhere. Under the contract RM are exempt from paying compensation if items go missing. Read the offical document postman posted and stick to that so if you can leavea BT item out of sight and under cover then do so as thats what BT are paying for!!!
