Also I believe that once they start to put people on a monthly pay voluntarily, and start enforcing it on new starters, once they have reached 50% of the work force on monthly pay, then they will make it compulsory for the ones that have not transferred. Hence we need an agreement.NumptyBumpty wrote:The agenda is to make everyone monthly paid so that it can be outsourced.Big Daz wrote:Why not let those weekly paid who want monthly pay have it and those who wish to stay weekly stay weekly?

Re: monthly pay
Us network drivers have been on monthly pay now for over 18 months. Rm offered us a loan of up to £2000, which was paid back over 12 months deducted from wages. For example I "borrowed" £1500 and my they took £125 off me every month. Many of us were not to happy at the time but now were used to it. Again it was in our professional drivers agreement to which was agreed by the CWU and no one supposedly voted for.

Re: monthly pay
I can't accept that there would be wholesale job losses going to monthly pay and in the the past firms asking for employees to go on monthly pay have paid a months pay in advance to be paid back over a period of time, which of course would be negotiated. So although the firm would be making an outlay it would be recouped over a period so the cost would be minimal and taken with the inevitable job losses would in fact pay for itself quite quuickly and would become an actual saving. It is normal for business to outsource all non essential services these days - what hasn't been outsourced - uniforms, IT, ATOS it is a natural progression really but only once monthly pay has been installed.

Re: monthly pay
What advantage is monthly pay to the average postie? No advantage. Think about it , waiting a month for your OT and door to door to be paid. I have been paid monthly in previous jobs and it is crap!

Re: monthly pay
The reason monthly pay is crap is that if a mistake is made you have to wait for it to be rectified and also you have to keep an eye on OT worked as monthly pay has a cut off date eg 15th of the month. You could have to wait until the month after next for that OT. No advantage in monthly pay for me

But you would have the OT from after the 15th of the previous month so its still 4 and a bit weeks OT money in your wages.
Unless youve done mega OT one week you will not notice the cut off date. Take somebody who does 6 hours SA week in week out the 15th cut off date is irrelevant.

Re: monthly pay
There are a lot less mistakes with monthly paid staff than weekly. With weekly you don't have much time to get things right. With monthly you have a lot more time. Weekly people usually get their payslip on thursday and are paid the next day, but monthly get their payslip about a week before pay day so you can get things sorted out if there is a mistake (processing for this month is next wednesday, 21st).tpost wrote:The reason monthly pay is crap is that if a mistake is made you have to wait for it to be rectified and also you have to keep an eye on OT worked as monthly pay has a cut off date eg 15th of the month. You could have to wait until the month after next for that OT. Re: monthly pay
In a previous job of mine we were paid fortnightly. On the second friday of the month we had a fixed pay advance of
half our basic wage and then at the end of the month we recieved the rest including accrued o.t. etc. This meant all of us young free and un-oppressed ones didn't have to wait too long for more beer tokens, while the company could process the wages on a monthly basis. Win Win. Though this was without the loss of jobs!

Re: monthly pay
RM would probably say to that, "so what's the advantage to us there?"
There's no hardship in processing a standard basic weekly or monthly pay, it's the variables like O/T etc which cause the clerical staff grief, and so that's the part which the pay group would like more time to do.
Nothing wrong with monthly pay anyway as that's how mortgages and bills are paid, unless you're like the kid who spends all his pocket money on the day he gets it.

Re: monthly pay
Good points raised there and I personally have no problem with transferring to monthly pay as I have said on numerous occasions.Tman wrote:RM would probably say to that, "so what's the advantage to us there?"

Yes I said that and I apologise about it. But yet you still keep demeaning others opinions despite many repeated attempts at asking you to stop.
Can I say it more plainly than this. Argue your points, discuss others points of view, tear my opinions apart with logic. Please dont keep referring in a disparaging way to "Tankies", kids (as in the above post) and other demeaning expressions. Now do you see the thrust of my point.
The strange thing is I honestly don't believe you think you are doing anything wrong and your not when you argue and discuss points of view that are different to mine or anybody else's. You have some good points such as in this thread on which I tend to be in agreement with you, but you ruin it with demeaning and disparaging comments about others views.
if you had stopped their your point would have been made and well presented, but you ruined it with the next sentenceTman wrote: RM would probably say to that, "so what's the advantage to us there?"

Did you not think how that would come across.Tman wrote:unless you're like the kid who spends all his pocket money on the day he gets it.
10 out of 10 for the first part your post, well written and argued.
0 out of 10 for the last part.
I have said I disagree with a lot of what you say but I respect your right to say it and I respond I hope in an adult way (apart from I childish outburst caused by frustration perhaps) yet you continue to dismiss other opinions IMHO in an arrogant and dismissive way. All I can do is keep addressing them as I spot them or as I get complaints about them.
Hopefully you can see why I keep going on about it and perhaps you will change your posts and leave the dismissive parts out, I won't then need to keep annoying and frustrating you and perhaps we can then both enjoy RMC for what its true intention is - The frank open honest and respectful discussion on matters relating to our work.
