BT tracked items

Have been informed today that if we deliver one of these and there is no answer and there is no safe place to leave it we have to try again if going back past the property. Also they are going to send people out with them later in the afternoon/evening. Wonder if this is a huge contract they cannot afford to lose. Regarding the safe place issue was amazed we can leave these in places when they look like they could be worth a bob or two but when we had endless light bulbs that even said on the packet "leave in safe place if out" we were told we had to 739 them.......barmy

There rules are very simple, if a packet cannot be delivered then it's P739'd, it's never to be left unless the householder has given written instructions to the DOM stating otherwise. If you have spare time then why not try to re-deliver the item but if you've no time then you've no time.

done a few of the BT packets, it actually says on the packet "if no answer leave out of sight and undercover [e.g with neighbour]
heard the manager going on about redelivering them later in the day, seems this is coming down from on high, how many times are they going to attempt delivery?
so it looks like someone is going to get sent out on docket, after i do my parcels i'm on a collection so no spare time for me!

Told the same by my Manager, If no-ones home leave somewhere out of sight preferably under cover or with a neighbour.He said BT was taking responsibility if they go missing and that they needed them left because too many engineers were getting to homes to fit them but had to leave as they did'nt have the routers on site.

The customer also receives a letter/email from BT saying it will be delivered before 2pm.

Most of our parcels are delivered between 1-4 and I suppose technically fail the USO as everything is meant to be delivered before 2pm. We get people phoning up about 3pm asking where their BT stuff is cos they've waited in all morning for it.

Not for BT Tracked - there are new rules for those because BT have accepted responsibility for loss should an item go missing. The ruling is now a second attempt must be made after 4 pm and should that fail then another visit must be made after 7.15 and before 8.00 the next day. I must say though there have only been a couple where a third visit has been necessary. As far as I am aware these restrictions have been added since the contract was accepted by RM.

we were told it was between 7 and 7.30 but werent told about an afternoon redelivery.

Not heard anything about trying to redeliver it again the same day but I've been off this week, if that is the case why have a 'Tracked Item' box on the P739 or is it just BT getting special treatment?

Why would an engineer have to call to the house unless it's a major rerouting of lines or an installisation of major new equipment then the customer does everything themselves (I know because I've set up a couple of broadband routers and new lines myself).

We've not been told about trying a redelivery, how ever we have to return them to our delivery office and not the local post office. We've been told the same re leaving them and that BT are ok with that as long as we don't leave in a stupid place. Does seem to be more of a one off type of contract rather than usual packet rules, however if BT have changed the contract after us agreeing surely we can request additional payment for redeliveries from BT. Our office is 9 miles from the area I deliver to. So if I get 2 failures and take them back to the DO, then someone later takes them back out, thats a hefty price to pay on wages and fuel etc for just 2 parcels. Saying that out of all the ones I've had to deliver I've only had 2 failures in total as folk are usually expecting them.

i thought SDD ment once over the ground so no going back,
and the contract is with the sender if it says 'if out leave in a safe place or with a neighbour' then do that if not p739..........
also if at the deliver point leave a note saying where to deliver/leave the item my line manager has said ignor this as contract is with the sender,
often these notes are left on the inside of a glass door so anyone can see were item is to be left or stuck on the outside were anyone could have put it so if it get nicked you loose your job
