CONFUSED

Post by FLUFFY »

Hi could somone please help me ive been working for royal mail for 2 months.. I started on 15 hours per week (3 hours a day over 5 days) doing late afternoon collections.I then got a further 11 hours per week doing a walk (2 hours 12 mins per day over 5 days) as one of the long time posties left.

Really grateful for extra hours and actually love the job but now the confusng bit the walk im doing is quite large its actually taking me longer to do than the 2 hours 12 mins more like 3 to 4 I understand that posties get quicker with time but to be honest Ide need wings and a rocket up my ass to do this in the allocated time.

Not sure what hours the previous postie got for this walk but could someone explain to me what the rules are on this as I seem to be working an average of 5 hours a week for nothing. Whilst were on the subject of money could someone please explain to me about Drivers allowance and SA pay Ive heard so many different things :d'oh!

OH and yes and I`m part time isnt everyone now days !! many thanks in advance

Just claim overtime, do you not have a work place coach who " showed you the ropes"? Everybody is different don't cut corners, we don't get paid enough to rush round although most of the managers who work for RM think that people especially those new to the business can be put under pressure not to claim overtime. See your local rep, join the union and they will point you in the right direction.

Just accept that most walks ,at least in our office are .in practice, far longer than Management suggest, it is only in theory that they can
be done in 'time'--just pick up the overtime, and do not do it for nothing.

Basically, if you are new, then you will not be entitled to any kind of driver allowances. One of the many things taken from us over the past few years. One of the few allowances left are D2D payments but RM has it in its sights to remove them.

there are no rules except that the delivery should be able to be done within 3.5 hours. Just book OT.

Better yet ask for pegasus to test the delivery. :chuckle

Like all things RM at the moment - "booking OT" is the norm, but in truth that is NOT the answer - what reps should be doing is negotiating longer contracts for the consistent hours worked and this should be thrashed out at resources meetings and the AWD looked at in some detail - of course it is easier to say "book OT".
