Royal Mail apprentices raise £7,500 for Havens Hospice

SIX young post office apprentices from Southend who raised £7,500 for Little Havens Children’s Hospice have been nominated for one of Royal Mail’s 1st Class People Awards.

The group set up a charity football tournament and family fun day for 24 teams from Royal Mail delivery offices in Essex and East London.

Last May’s tournament, at the Royal Mail Sports and Social Club, in Basildon, attracted 1,500 people Martin Childs, Royal Mail customer service manager helped train the apprentices. He said: “They were set fundraising as a challenge, but we didn’t expect results like this.

“It was phenomenal. They spent a lot of their own time organising the event and visited delivery offices around Essex to drum up support and get teams to enter.”
