That practice is no less dishonest than that to which you're trying to stop!
Not dishonest at all if I am reading it right he is making it last by doing the job properly.

I suppose if you are trying to kill time so that you get back from your duty at the allocated time then that could be viewed as dishonest.
But if your office is working the correct "allocated hours"procedure i.e. working until 14.00 ,then are you going to rush back for them to find you something else to do?.

I believe most of you are missing the point.
The reason why I started this topic is because in work yesterday my fears became reality.
The rumer mill has started and who stared it I have no idea, but of course it had to start from somewhere!
Management now require a considerable amount of duties to put towards the April savings program.
If however the stupid mindless idiots who have rushed around, came back to the office early and asked "whats left, I'll do that for a payment" and those of you squeezing in 11 hours work in 5 hours or even doing more than 5 hours overtime a day stopped to think, the amount of duties could be reduced to next to nothing.
I know the job don't pay well and some of us have to live with doing overtime, however over excessive colleagues from the CGP are making unions work impossible and in today's climbs everybody would rather be in work than out.
I believe that those of you in favor of the CGP, go and look for alternative work somewhere that pays the money you are seeking and STOP for hevans sack making a mockery of the system and making your colleagues work even harder than it already is.

I think what wolfie citizen smith is saying that those who continue to do Ghost overtime are giving the bosses he ammunition to cut hours. Am I right.

I actually support this argument, OK if they offer you overtime do it and negotiate extra hours if you can, but don't rush round to get it done within the same time as your normal duty as they will see this as an opportunity to rejig walks, they will ignore that you rushed round to get both jobs done. If you don't believe me just have a look round RMC and see how many offices are doing permanent lapsing. :hmmmm

What begs the question is how Managers can justify the overpayment in what is blatantly a fraudulent practice.

Wouldn't it be more prudent to employ more people? If you are paying 10 hours to get 5 hours work done - why not pay someone 5 hours to get no work done - it may sound Irish but it would make sense to have standby staff doing nothing for 5 hours if you're paying 10 hours to get 5 done - I knew I was wasted as an OPG :whistle

Yes it would mate, but more staff means more uniform, more leave, more pensions etc.I see where your coming from but how do you think that would go down in a lot of offices, ones where docket reigns, also someone standing about doing nothing for 5 hours  ,some people would say weve all ready got them in the form of management.

wolfie citizen smith wrote:I get hazzled when I challenge a colleague regarding the amount of overtime they book in one day. On somedayz they book 11 hours overtime, now taking into account there duty starts at 11.00am and they arrive to start there overtime at 06.00am. All 11 hours are booked on delivery only.
So from 06.00 to 11.00 = 5.00 hours before there duty starts, however this person likes to expose to management that they can perform 11 hours overtime in 5 hours and on some occations get others to cover his/her duty while they are continuing with there overtime. Are you keeping up???
I have tried "oh have I tried" to explain that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable as I, as well as you pay good money out of our wages for Headquaters to speak to our employers on our behalf to arrange good working conditions in the form of agreements. i.e 11 hours rest brake, 65 hours earnings per week and so on and so forth.
So "why do I bother" when you have greedy mindless sapps exposing duties and overtime to management, at the moment i have no idea, comuth the day when this plonker screams at the union to save his job because it been used in a savings program.
Has anyone got this kind of mindless idiot in there unit??????????
Do you work in Ipswich.

wolfie citizen smith wrote:capitalisium thats all it is. Thatcher greed. However who's the bad guy when you feel like stating to the D.I.M sorry D.O.M, "why are you letting this happen" but whats more puzzling is why our unit rep allows it, sorry again "his part of the capitalistic gaining party" yes the CGP. these people "our colleagues" dont give a rats hoot about unions or what they stand for, they are just interested in how they can shaft the next person out of overtime.
Help Me!!! what can be done to stop this ?????????
I ask you, what CAN the unit rep do exactly? Its like saying, "I don't know why the unit rep doesn't stop people going out in their cars!" We advise people. If they chose to ignore this then what else is there? Break their legs perhaps? Time and time again you hear this statement. To be honest I'm surprised in today's flexible climate that this practice is still going on

First of all I would like to say how elequently True Blue Terrier made me sound and I thank you for your way of putting things.
Secondly DVBuk55, yes it is and I'm sure that comes under "Gross Miscontuct"
Thirdly paulsmd, It nice to read that our unit is not the only unit that has this problem and no i do not.
Lastly dave7634, even though I agree that cars should not be used on delivery, Royal Mail allow this practice to go on, because there is no employment law that states you can not use your car (if all your documents are in order that is) however Royal Mail and the CWU have jointly agreed our working conditions relating to the minimum rest needed between shifts, the maximum amount of overtime earnings per week. So rearly a maximum of 5 hours overtime per day anyone can perform, unless its your rest day, then if available 13 hours overtime can be earnt, to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Another thing I would like to touch on if possible, can anyone inform whether the ruling about holding S/A's still exists. i.e you can hold as many hours on S/A as you like but after 12 hours the remaning S/A's held reverts back to pressure rate???
