How is the credit crunch affecting your walk area?

Post by majeed »

As postmen, we are concerned when a business closes or someone loses their job. We see the same area day-in and day-out, whether it is changing for the worse or the better. How has the credit crunch and world recession manifested itself on your walk?

My walk is totally residential, so I haven't seen any decline. Mail and packets (outwith Christmas Pressure) are pretty much the same.

But, don't you hear people complaining? Is it working class residential or middle class residential?

Hopefully all the opposite sex !!
My areas full of houses for sale and none selling, few repossosed lying empty. Parcel volumes are really high and to be honest I think they'll stay high as usually cheaper to shop on line than go to real shops. I had noticed a switch from a lot of amazon packets to play.com though so might be play.com's cheaper. watch this space

No, but I've seen them in dirty, baggy y-fronts :Sick

Anyway, the only difference I've seen is the massive reduction in house prices (or should I say I've seen the house prices fall to their proper level).

Three of my customers have been made redundant recently and redirections have dropped from an average of about 30 when I joined the walk several years ago to five at the moment - there are only two "for sale" signs up out of over 500 properties in what was once recognised as an estate agents dream area. Biggest complaint I hear is about gas and electricity prices - bet they come down when the demand reduces with warmer weather !!!

It's working class mainly. Lots of working people I don't see and pensioners who've been through all this before and live within their means. There have been 3 people evicted from different properties, but they were the type you would expect regardless of the credit crunch.

Good to see you back Majeed.

Three house repossessions on my walk. Two of them in the last month.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?
