Being Sent To Other DO's

Post by Senior Service »

What are the rules if any for being sent to other DO,s?
A couple of weak members (not the sort to complain) of staff are being sent to other offices when other duties are colapsed, they even use their own cars to get there.
Can they politely say they do not wish to go or at the very least refuse to use their own car to get there. They have been told they can claim travelling but as yet seem unable to get any money for it.

This is from the Pay and Mod agreement

Working in nearby offices “ Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements.

Do not use your car insist on transport to and from said office within your contracted hour's or bill them for parking ticket's extra and all other cost's incurred on yourself!. MAKE THEM PAY NOT YOU!.

As far as I know they can ask you to work in antoher office but they have to arrange travel and agree if further from your home travel time as per prev post. Usually falls down when you ask for transport as they won't have any spare vans or drivers to take you there / pick you up.

Why are duties being collapsed to send others out of the office.
I don't think that is right, the agreement is,if there is surplus staff, not to make surplus staff then push them out!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

This has happened in my office quite recently - someone being sent off to another office (a part-timer, who wouldn't moan - they could have sent a full-timer but probably knew he would request transport and only work to his time so pointless!!) - the result being one walk having to be put on overtime or taken out by managers (perhaps a bit of both)..

Don't use a car to get to other office, go to your office and insist that you use RM van, book time for travel, remember to allow time for travel back to your normal office, cut off if need be. If you go over make sure you book. I was put out to an SPDO, I've no transport to get there, they supplied a van. So I booked for every minute I went over, they soon moved me back to my office.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

This happens sometimes in our office. However we have an area agreement to cover this and the arrangements for travelling time, etc. are fully laid down in it.

If they use their cars to commute to a workplace other than their regular workplace, their insurance is invalid. Check your policies.

From my actual insurance statement: Use a) In addition to social, domestic and pleasure use which includes to and from your normal place of work.

I think that is proof enough that we can't use our cars to travel to another office.

It depends on your Insurance Company. Most specify that you can only go to your NORMAL place of Work. But some, say that you can travel to a SINGLE place of Work, so long as Business Calls aren't made en route. Which is handy, for people who don't necessarily work in the same building, all year round.

I'm one of the lucky ones. But, as I've pointed out to my Manager: If he needs me to work at another Site (which has happened already), I need to know before turning up for Work. Or I can't get there without him providing Transport.

Not so says my area rep you go to your delivery office and there should be transport for you to the office they wish you to attend... under no circumstances should you use your own vehicle you do not get any mileage allowance for it so don't go that route it could be a lot further to travel to the other office after all why give your fuel / running costs freely to them they also have to provide you transport back to your office at the end of your duty span
