Sums Royal Mail Up!!

Post by the shadow »

Hi all, dont post very often on here, more of a reader than a writer. Just have to get a few things off my chest that happened at work this week. I,m a 600 driver based in the south west and on Wednesday i did my 1st run to the mail centre, on the way back there was a big accident which closed the motorway, i was already on it at the time, this resulted in me not being able to get back in time to do my second run, in fact it took me 5.30 hours to get back to my office, a run that normally takes 1.10 hours!! The rest of our drivers were sent up regardless of the motorway being shut southbound, the thinking being you can get the mail to the mail centre and we dont care if you cant get home again.OK i understand that the mail has to get to the mail centre and have no problem with that, so 5 of our drivers are stranded at the mail centre as all the surrounding roads are gridlocked with cars trying to avoid the motorway, one of the managers says to our guys that you may as well go to the canteen and get something to eat and drink and sit it out here untill the motorway is reopened, keep the reciepts and Royal Mail will pay you the money back, they go get some food and the bill comes to £15 for the 5 of them, so they didn,t take the mick. They eventually make it back between 2- 3 hours late(22.45) The following day they say to the manager about this money for food, to be met with "oh i dont know if i can pay you that" WTF? if it had been me i would have payed this out of my own pocket as thanks for there efforts. On top of this not either our late shift manager or the delivery office manager uttered one word of thanks for there efforts in making sure that the mail got through.Second thing, yesterday(friday) i have worked for Royal Mail for 20 years, did 1 manger come up to me and say well done, congratulations etc? not a chance. These 2 things for me just epitomize what this company think about your efforts for them in this day and age. RANT OVER.

I totally agree, my experience is the same, I have been in 21 years, in that time I have become cynical and just simply work to the minimum, expect nothing as that way dissapointments will not happen, in the past as young and eager keen postie in his first year, I have suggested ideas and tips for them to be ignored and then claimed by the management as their own idea, I got shafted a few times by the RM disciplinary procdures and nearly sacked once due to one managers vindictivness, (later reduced to a warning on appeal) it still makes me mad thinking about it :evil/mad.

I have gone out of my way to deliver items and even waited outside some firm's locations in the past to deliver a 9am special, only to be accused of being lazy, slacking, not up to standard, since then I have refused to deliver 9am specials and packets, I do other overtimes instead, when I have gone over delivering packets or dropping posties off and going over my time, by 30 min or whatever, I used to get overtime for it until the supervisor used the "flexibility" deal to deny me the dockets since then I refuse to work past my time and always get out of the office dead on my time, if asked to work past it I refuse full stop after all they can't make you work past your time, part of the deal innit its a two edged sword, they have just skewered themselves on it and lost my goodwill.

to sum RM up, incompetent, self serving, egotistical, self absorbed, vindictive, avaricious, uncaring.

the only thing that keeps the place going is the Posties and customers rarely meet the managements, we are the public face of the organisation.

my own opion is thats thats in your manager not the comapany, i have no problems you guys have our manager must be the one and only thats got his head screwed on .We recently had a visit from the area manager who said its always nice to come here because people talk to me at other offices they say why are you talking to me go away ( thats my words , thats not what they said to him) i,m not creeping or a slimeball but i think its the attitude within the offfice in saying that not everyone in the office is the same but more than 80 per cent work well together and have done so for many years . just my opion.

The managers in my office are the most useless bunch I've ever met, they are rude, incompetent, lazy, liars, bullys etc. and I wouldn't allow them to breed let alone run an office. :mad

The managers in my office, save one, are pleasant polite and treat you with respect, they always thank you if you help them out, deliver an extra tracked or accelerate someone. So I can't agree that they are all the same. However I do beleive RM would have them all on training courses to be like you say yours are.

Please, don't even joke about that! :nervous I dread to think, what will happen once TNT get hold of 1/3 of RM.

First thing TNT will do is to butcher the management levels, after all, what other business would have a manager for every 15 staff.

TNT do not have majority ownership so it cannot call the shots.

MC's are the ones that have to worry.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

They're being brought in for their 'experience' so they'll have an input over all aspects of the business but as Postman says, the MCs will be the first to be hit.

Funny logic. Why would a profit-making business "hit" the very parts that make the money?

Come to that, how does a minority-holding partner get to "hit" anything without RM's agreement?

No, it's the DO network that TNT want to get sole access rights to, and to play around with. :hmmmm

Well, my manager says thank you and generally, the guys where I work are usually very appreciative of the things that you do for them. :cuppa I guess it's down to the individual. Even if we are thinking it, just to say, "thanks" goes a long way. Minute management and communication would have sorted out the mix-up with the honouring of the receipt payment. Sorry, mate.
