No more full time.

Post by Lounge Lizard »

We have been told that nobody will be given a full time post in future and that any full time vacancies will be filled by part timers. Is this just locally or nationally ?

It's just what they've been doing for the past couple of years, it'll be fun if they decide to force full timers to go to part time (they want to do that in my office) but as my office runs on OT they would be leaving themselves wide open to legal proceedings. :Very Happy

That's what they want, employ people on 1/8/20 hour contracts and let them work OT to make a semi-liveable wage, and it's cheaper on holiday pay and sick pay. Even though my DO is constantly running on OT they still want another 120 hours out

Our office hasn't recruited full time staff for 4 -5 years now. However they want to introduce 4.5 hour walks and as such will offer full time contracts to part timers if they accept the longer walk.

And the spineless managers will nod there heads in acceptance at the conference call to the next jerk up the line from him who belives this is right .....because he fears for his job along with the 'dim ,wits' who thinks it can be achived because 'big al's' always right no doubt he's a new 'buzz word' for it...............
The biggest shame is these so called managers should be speaking out and addresing the facts that it simply is not do-able and the system is near collapse

Thats the problem, I'm pigeon holed as being negative because I say what I believe when I hear a bad idea. Thats why I'll never be a manager, managers not just in Royal Mail but most companies now seem to all be yes men. I think we should club together and buy all our managers a copy of The Emperors New Clothes, as they have either never read it or have forgotton it. Just because someone higher than you thinks of an idea doesn't mean it's a good one. Saying that an old boss of mine would regularly ask for staff input, someone would suggest an idea, it was immediatley rejected as "stupid". Then within half an hour he would come back with the same idea as his own and declare it brilliant !!

As far as im aware the national aggrement that says RM mangers must get approval from CWU rep if they wish to recruit a PT against a FT vacany is till in place.

In my D.O we replace PT with PT and FT with FT.

we don't replace FT with PT, although we do have PT on site. we make up those who wish to be FT when the business comes looking for hours.

negative just means RM can't take or deal with criticism - with another union , intransigent was the buzzword parroted off by drones out of a lobotomy lab

that manager sounds like a right inadequate egotistical prat - I'm surprised that some idiots in charge are able to cross the road

There are some decent Managers on Royal Mail there must be :pray if only by pure chance.

I think though that Royal Mail don't fully understand what a Manager is. To me a Manager is responsible for the day to day operation of their department, for the implementation of policy and the dissemination of information to people they are responsible for. However, this is where RM seem to stop they forget that a good manager is also responsible for passing information from the coal face further up the chain of command, they are also there to protect their employees from undue pressure and to ensure that all H&S rules are applied and followed, that individuals are neither shown favour or disfavour, that unworkable directives are not imposed and that any grievances are handled in a sympathetic manager and that agreements local or national should be followed until there is an agreement on their change.

In essence when Royal Mail start to allow their Managers to manager rather than to supervise, Royal Mail will be more efficient, a better place to work and IMHO more profitable, and most certainly have a more flexible work force.

That's how they want it for the future. Slowly get rid of F/t and have a P/t workforce. They perceive that walk sequencing machines will pave the way forward for this to happen. In my office once a F/t leaves the duty automatically drops down to P/t has done for the past 2 years and docket now needs to be explained why it's being booked.
