Re: Postal Services Act Needs Urgent Revision Says Lawson
I am afraid it is a big deal to a lot of posties who object to being used as mules to traffic for criminals ,
It is also a big deal to all the poor victims family members who are desperatly trying to stop there parents from responding
Its a big deal to those who are selling their homes to pay the scammers.
Its a big deal to those targeted who are elderly and confused and bogus clairvoyants are demanding money to keep harm away from them or their families.
But if it is no big deal to you , thats fine you can chat on another thread and leave it to the ones that think it is a big deal to try and work out a solutioin.

Ofcourse we don't like it! But there is no point talking to postal workers about this as we are obliged to deliver it. You've made your point a few times but I don't know what you expect of us. If we don't deliver we can lose our jobs.

FAO Millie&Mo,
I have to agree with Night Tonic (first time for everything). Yes, we object to being used as 'mules' by criminals. No, we are not happy to deliver this stuff. Not one little bit. And, imho, by entering into this partnership, Royal Mail has cast it's principles into the gutter. But what can we, the lowly postmen, actually do about it. We are powerless to stop it.
I would also like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. For my part, I was unaware RM were actively involved in this trade until you did. May I suggest that you focus your campain on those people who can inform public opinion, the media outlets, in particular, the columnists who write for both local and national newspapers. They are always looking for 'scandals' to write about and an awful lot of the general public read their columns.

Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Precisely! Knowledge is power.
I still think that you're doing the right thing, talking to us about this. We can provide informed feedback. For example: The stamp that I contacted you about recently. How many members of the Public, would have realised that there was a risk of it backfiring?
By the way. I can't find uptodate info about Scamnesty, on your site. Is it just being updated, or am I looking in the wrong place?
Did you decide to change the wording?
I can't even find any details about the stamp, on the OFT Website. Are you still going to use one?

Re: Postal Services Act Needs Urgent Revision Says Lawson
Hi
Febuary is national Scamnesty month and the media highlight scams of all guises, not just postal scam
Last years scamnesty did however dedicate a lot of time to postal scams and next month is hopefully going to be the same.
Now the Think Jessica stamp is something we would like to see being used on bulk mail during scamnesty month every year, ( like children in need is stamped on envelopes!)
Because the stamp carries the thinkjessica phone number, elderly and vulnerable people who are not on the internet will be able to telephone and hear the recorded message warning of scam mail and the dangers of what will happen if they reply, this message also tells of the tricks scammers use..0871 200 3796 (min rate 10p min BT landline call charge) its a four minute call and the number is active NOW!
It is really a way of raising awareness and reaching the great many victims who are spending the majority of their time reading/sorting and replying to scams . These are the ones who don’t watch television or read newspapers because they are so preoccupied with the criminal mail. They live alone or the family either doesn’t know what they are doing or are unable to stop them.
A 70,80 or ninety year old dealing with up to 100 scam letters a day has little time for anything else and putting the warning on the envelopes is a sure fire way of reaching them.
Like I said p.m the wording has still to be agreed , but what you have got is great to attach to the bottom of emails or for private individuals to stamp on there mail.
Scamnesty is something that is organised by the OFT and we are hoping that they might consider using the stamp idea next year!
For more information on Scamnesty you would have to google scamnesty 2009 , there is nothing about it as yet on thinkjessica.com
YOUR IMPUT AS YOU QUITE RIGHTLY SAY ,AS SOMEONE WHO HAS FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE VERY VALUABLE!

Glad you think so. Sigh....I must go clean the oven. We have enough to be going on with without something that we have no say in. Perhaps if you were more targetted?

She is, on her Website. But it seems perfectly sensible for her to ask us for advice and feedback. considering that any changes that they might manage to get. Would affect us directly.
