I think that banked hours was that during the summer when the mail is 'light' you'd only work 30hrs per week and that in the autumn pressure you'd have to work 50hrs per week to make up for the summer, at least that was my interpretation of the 'banked hours'.
During the summer we had lapsed duties where everyone was expected to do part of another delivery and more people were allowed to have leave - I don't think there's a cat in hells chance of banked hours in our office the overtime sheets look like the book of genesis - if those hours were banked instead of paid there wouldn't be anybody working on alternate weeks.

10 hours of your banked hours has come from working 10mins earlier over a 12 week period so really you would only owe 4 hours, see the stupidity???

You are efficient by starting at your correct time and finishing on time, these are RM working guidelines.

This workforce needs to change from being a conscientious one to one that watches the clock. RM tagged times on everything so lets do the job correctly and work only to those times.

I'm an FTLR and complete the duties quicker than the person on there own duty, in the time its took be to use up 6 hours a colleague has used up 30 hours on a duty I find hard to "drag out"! Why am I being asked to do extra work for free when others don't? Do these banked hours have to be used up? What are the consequences if they aren't? What happened to praise for not claiming overtime?

I'm now in training in a new career where efficiency will be appreciated and not abused... :hmmmm
You reduced the hours owed from 20 to 14, so from a certain point of view you have already accepted you owe hours.
Would it be fair to say that you knew you were banking hours all along, and that you also knew you would have to pay them back, or were you unaware of what was taking place. The questions here are how was it decided how much time you were banking daily or weekly, were you involved if not why not.
"why am i being asked to do extra work for free when others are not ? " you're not. Job and finish clearly still exists for you. The job is finished after 8 hours not when you think it is, i think you will find your hours are being better utilised, i also believe you will find that this is what happened to the praise for not claiming ot. Your post highlights the mentality of a lot of my colleagues though who see what others are doing or getting and want the same. One colleague in particular, who is a reserve by the way, doesn't see the point in hanging around and is regularly handing back van keys nearly two hours early. Others around this person don't want to go on holiday for fear of him covering them and butchering their duties.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Yawn... I clocked up 20 bank hours, a guy that comes in bang on time everyday clocks up 30..... We do the same job. Stop trying to have arguments with folk and realise that your office may use banking hours this year and you'll be pissed off when your asked to do extra work for nothing.

You really need to let us know what your banking arrangements are, do you get to finish early and the business banks those hours, or do you get days off and those days are banked or do you rush around and finish early and have the hours you haven't worked banked :hmmmm I really don't understand how you can have clocked up 20 hours so maybe you could let us know the full details.

I am confused as well and too blow me own trumpet that does not happen often with RM agreements. If you come in on time, do the work they request and do the job properly, and finish on time how could you owe them hours I thought it would be the other way round.

They are going to try and bring banking hours in at my place and unlike everyone else I am not to bothered by the Operational side, but I certainly want to see the recording and administration process they will bring in to make sure its fair, legal and above board.

The banked hours are from when mail dipped in the summer, when we went home early these hours were tallied up and are now being used in the busier winter period. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for flexibility and have used bankhours on busy days, the problem is a lot of posties in our office struggle to use these hours up on there own duties and are therefore being pestered to do extra work to use these hours up. I would say on average each postie accrued around 22 hours. Some haven't used any up, some have used all and that goes to show how uneven duties can be. If your a postie that does his IPS, prep and delivery on time everyday you will be expected to do extra work. In my opinion these hours should only be banked on pressure overtime, not to do extra unpaid overtime so that DOM's save a bit of money.

All for give and take bud, when I have a busy day I use my bank hours, just don't want to do extra (another duty) for nothing

Good suggestion one that should be included in any national or local agreement. I think what your suggesting is too use it on your own duty rather than on uncovered ones is that right.

Yes mate, I thought that was what it was until my manager started putting pressure on me and fellow workmates to do extra work on top of your own duty. I've never been one for overtime, have a young family and prefer to spend time with them yet now I'm being told to come to work 1:30 early or work my day off for free! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

My office (and I'm sure many others) did the lapsing of duties over the 'light' summer period, it wouldn't have mattered to me anyway, I barely had enough time to complete my own duty in my hours so I didn't do much (5/6 times I think) so I expect the banking would go the same way. Use their rules to beat them with, as the saying goes - Do the job properly. :Very Happy

We've had banked hours last summer - this ain't about arguing - but don't listen to me, you carry on and work for nothing!

Thats not how it was supposed to work, what we had to do in the summer, when works was supposed to be light, rurals took the town parcels out if they had time, the towns had to do part of another delivery, if anyone was then not finishing on time, but trying to finish early, then they could be asked/made to do something to fill time in, eg a couple of streets, a few parcels etc. This is what we classed as lapsing, which they're still trying on.

The only banking we would do, is if you finished early by say 5-10 mins, then later in the week if you finished late by the same amount, you didn't book docket.

Hopefully in our office we'd never allow banking, any longer than the flexi thing they want, RM just can't be trusted, I'm surprised this is happening in your office, do you not have a CWU rep?

We banked 30 mins a day during summer because they thought mail was light and we should finish 30 mins early. Instead we all finished on time and claimed the 30 mins on overtime. In November and xmas pressure they started taking the banked hours from our pay. Which seemed fair enough. But then a manager got confused, so they decided to ditch the Banked hours. Strange decision when we owe them hours  . As a result most of us got paid 20 hours extra in the summer.
