Hi all,
i am on a 1 hr contract and basically cover for anyone who is sick/holiday etc, basically this week my hours are 9am-1pm and my walk i believe is 3.5 hrs, so my fitting should be prepped etc, leaving me to do redirections a small amount of prepping and travelling to job, my managers have told me in the past that i should do door to doors in my own time!
on monday i had approx 1 hrs worth of mail not prepped so prepped this myself and booked an hour o/time, No door to doors completed. 2pm finish.
on tuesday the mail was fully prepped and i finished to the scheduled time 1pm, No door to doors completed.
on wednesday the mail was heavy and i finished at approx 1.30pm, 30 mins o/time to be booked. No door to doors completed.
i do not intend to do any door to doors at all this week tbh as i have been booked to work from 9-1pm with just delivery as my job.
am i in the right in this situation or just being petty? i do not get paid to hang around after every 1 has left the office to prep the door to doors so why should i bother?
any input people
cheers

Re: AM I WITHIN MY RIGHTS OR TAKING THE MIC?
. ok buddy its very simple if you want to do OT then just turn up and do whatever they want, but if you dont then just work till your finish time and go home. one thing i dont know is what length of break you are due, but i am sure someone on here will let you know, but whatever the break is you subtract that amount plus 15 min (pouching off time) and that gives you the time of your last letter, hope this helps. As far as the D2d goes never on your own time and give the DOM the choice D2D or mail tell him you will prep your 20% but that means you getting out later meaning less time for delivery his choice, hope this helps

If you are on a 1 hour contract then only do the 1 hour per week and then go home but if you agree to do the delivery then you agree to do some of the D2Ds (20%) everyday.
Didn't we have this conversation before, about holiday pay, and I'm sure we gave you the same advice.

Delivering d2d's is part of the job unfortunately and could lead to your dismissal if you dont do them unless it is with the managers permission. Tell him that you cannot manage them and be finished on your time or tell him you will do them but have to leave some of your delivery. Do not ignore them as it could land you in the sh*t. Hope this is of some help

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Lol. Didnt we have this thread before? People are required to work their contracted hours, not rocket science...If your on a 1hr contract then work 1hr if you want. You cannot be forced to work over this under any circumstances.tragictramp wrote:lol i was gunna ask that, im bored of these posts so ill post something even more boring!

I have made a small change to your quoted post to make it doubly clear.fmrPOSTIE wrote:

Tragic - as long as you work your contracted 1 hour in a week you can count any other time as voluntary. Unless they have made you sign a contract that stipulates you complete either the whole delivery regardless, or that you must work the hours that the regular duty holder does.
In this case if you only want to work for the normal hours overtime do as suggested, advise the manager that you have a previous arrangement then prep the mail, prep 20% of the D2Ds, bag it up work out where you will finish and advise the manager where they will need to cover it.
If you can't (or perhaps even don't want to) work the full hours for the duty, as in if you want to do 2 hours instead of 6 - I would strongly advise the Manager as early as possible, and certainly no later than the day before. This is so that he can plan ahead and not accuse you of any impropriety.
These 1 hour contracts can be a pain but they do offer you flexibility (

Re: AM I WITHIN MY RIGHTS OR TAKING THE MIC?
on the point of d2d's do we not get paid extra to deliver these items any more, and are as such voluntary. Does this same principle not apply to a 1 hour contract.
what we are looking at here is the RM future. People hired on p*ss poor contracts given an amount of mail and told to deliver everything in the bag.
Get chatty with the line manager as them after an hour if they think you're slow when they say no its to be expected say thanks bye i'm off home, i've done my hour
