Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
no not really........ i knew all about circular distributors etc my quest is to find out how much royal fail is being paid for them i know in some ares they have people delivering for them but i'd guess the uptake is so poor they have to pay royal fail to do the job.But how much do they pay for the service common sence says they can't posibly charge the same or less than royal fail and then pay us to deliver so whats the rate do they pay royal fail or is the partnership deeper than everyone thinks already ?

Royal Mail get paid roughly 5 -6p per item per door according to the Royal Mail website though they have been running special offers at a bit less towards the end of 2008. I have heard rumours though that they want to drastically increase the amount of door to door traffic we handle.

Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
Its not rumour its fact!!!!!
RM and CWU are still trying to reach aggrement on the future of D to D
CWU are happy in principle to remove the 3 items a week cap but that needs to be backed by a decent new aggrement that throughly covers all the associated issues that come with removing the cap.
The CWU see removing the cap as a potential way of securing FT jobs.
Give us 10 a week all in one high profile envelope and 2 pence minium pay rate.
What we need to consider is do we continue with the current pay system or absorb the money into basic pay for all OPG'S in all functions. If we do d to d within our 40 hour week then technically we getting money for nothing and processing and distrubution lose out on such a oppurtunity.

Wheres the consultation with members of the public? Most people dont want this "junk mail s**t" coming through their doors. Royal Mail should focus on its core service and ditch D2D or put it out to tender.Big Daz wrote:Its not rumour its fact!!!!!

What core service. Without D2D we'd be sunk.

so far have not managed to save any jobs---we get this old chestnut rolled out time and again, about 'saving jobs'
if my office is anything to go by. in the past few years not only have jobs not been saved, original contracts have been decimated.

Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
Door to door cap has not been lifted yet so whether or not we would see a increase of customers using RM instead of newspapers or magazines or TNT is therotical. In theroy a increase in door to door would work if the increase was big enough.
The trick is getting enough d to d away from our rivals and into our system.

Seems strange that anyone would wish to "lose" work, especially during a recession.
Don't see why my postie can't deliver my daily paper at the same time

Don't see why my postie can't deliver my daily paper at the same timeafter all, he only does a couple of hours work..
Just a quick correction the poster that said we should ditch D2D and concentrate on our "core service" is not a current postie but a former one - hence their non-de-plume of "fmrPostie". So in essence they are speaking as a member of the public who do not want the D2Ds (have you registered fmrPostie ?) so they won't "lose" any work.
