unusual parcels
One of our posties on collection from a post office picked up a canoe this last week, it was queried because of it's size but as it was under six feet long (just) it was deemed OK, it got me wondering what other unusual parcels have been posted.

Re: unusual parcels
The Post Office should not be accepting items that large. The problem is once they have accepted them there is not much we can do about it. Best you can do is complain to your collections manager and get them to remind the PO of size limits.

Re: unusual parcels
I would be interested if anyone knows what the size limits are but the post office manager said as long as it was under six feet he was obliged to accept it. What if it was six feet square I thought?

Re: unusual parcels
For first class and special delivery:
The maximum dimensions for rectangular items are 610mm x 460mm x 460mm.
The maximum length for rolled items is 900mm and the length plus twice the item diameter must not exceed 1040mm.
For standard parcels:
Standard Parcels is ideal for items up to 1.5m long and 20kg in weight, provided the combined length and girth doesn’t exceed 3m.

We get car bumpers in quite often, when I was in Callers we had a few sets of wheels come back, one day it looked like a F1 pit garage

Yes, we often see wheels, tyres, and even slick tyres. Then there's the bumpers, suspension components, etc..k66yla wrote:We get car bumpers in quite often, when I was in Callers we had a few sets of wheels come back, one day it looked like a F1 pit garage

Re: unusual parcels
In my old job I sent a frozen dead penguin via special delivery. It was put in 4 air tight boxes with ice and the postman who collected it was non the wiser.
The biggest thing I have delivered was a mens mountain bike and it weighed nearly 25kg. And they werent in so they had to come and collect it.

Re: unusual parcels
not long after I started, one of the van drivers had a cooker to deliver
I've always wondered just how that was done - do you go to Currys or somewhere, and then say "no - your delivery charge is too expensive - post it to me?"
