unsafe shoes

Hi, I'm a postman and last year I slipped and suffered damaged knee ligaments. I am in no doubt that the "non slip" shoes we are provided was the cause for this slip and I'm sure many of you are aware of the problems these shoes cause. I am currently persuing an accident injury claim and I would appriciate it if anyone who has had problems with slipping because of the shoes would reply to this thread as the more people that I can get to testify that the shoes are (or should I say were, before they were changed) unsafe for the job. My solicitor was given a copy of the "test" results that were carried out to see if the shoes were safe and it was said there was a low risk in wearing the shoes. I'm sure you will agree with me that the magnum shoes are far from low risk. So if anyone has had a problem with the shoes and how slippery they are then please reply.Many thanks.horris_1uk

Suggest that you may also wish to supply your solicitor with copies of relevant LTBs from the health and safety section which specifically mentions RM footwear Magnum Shoes/Boots?

This is to update Branches and Safety Representatives following the most recent discussions with Bob Taylor, Royal Mail National Uniform Manager.

The background to this problem is well known to Branches and safety representatives in respect of the widespread concerns reported to the Health, Safety and Environment Department regarding the poor slip resistance and durability of the current 'Magnum Hi-Tec' footwear, introduced in September 2007. A significant number of accidents, including 'RIDDORS' (over 3 day sick leave) accidents for slips and trips were reported, linked to the footwear.

i am forwarding that information on and i was told by my solicitor that the test results carried out on the shoes came back as saying they were adequate for the job :o so why are they now being changed hmmm strange..

I never wear RM shoes or waterproofs they are s**t, I always wear really good walking boots & my own good quality wet jacket, I know its more money but looking after your feet & keeping dry is more important to me, I have it written in my files can not wear cheap shoes so I am covered for any event,the outdoor gear has always been crap.

Yes, I had a doctors letter to say the shoes we wear were damaging to my feet, so get to wear my own---
I usually buy from the boys section, as childrens shoes normally are very tough and slip proof. the problem is the
Bosses are tardy in paying out for them- and the jackets are useless--you are only supposed to wear them for an hour at a time.
