WITH reference to the takeover of the Post Office by the Dutch firm TNT (Yorkshire Post, December 18), those of us who can remember the Royal Mail before Blair and Brown complied with the instructions of their masters in Brussels will recall a service which was second to none. It was efficient and also profitable and among the best in the world.

The solution to all its problems are there for all to see – remove the cherry picking foreign companies (DHL etc) from the equation, re-instate the Royal Mail's monopoly, give them back all the assets they have been stripped of, cut the fat cat bosses' pay by at least 50 per cent, tell the EU to go to hell and the Post Office will soon be back to its best.

Having worked for a large British shipping company whose particular division was merged with the biggest Dutch shipping company, I have experienced Dutch inefficiency at its best. The last thing the Royal Mail needs is a Dutch firm running it. We may as well save the money and close the Royal Mail down now, before the Dutch ruin it completely – after all, are they not part of the EU who are hell bent on the destruction of our postal service for their own gain and our detriment?

I had to send a document to Rotterdam and was told by our Dutch personnel department to send it to DHL – it cost £50.48. The same service was provided by the Royal Mail for £7.50,
the only difference being the Royal Mail did not pick it up from the door.

THE Hooper report into Royal Mail glibly states that Royal Mail has been less efficient than its competitors elsewhere.

But this ignores the Mail's statutory responsibility to deliver a comprehensive service at the same price to addresses throughout the United Kingdom. It does not have the luxury of cherry picking which mail to deliver, unlike the private sector. Market directives from the European Union have handed the most lucrative areas to privateers, leaving the rest to the public carrier. The proposal to involve the Dutch firm TNT as a partner to Royal Mail will sound the death knell for a universal service as we know it. Neither the Government nor the opposition has any mandate for this treacherous act.

now we are making a larger private RM/TNT mongrel that will dominate the market i assume
soon we shall have TNT stating that dowstream access is unworkable and it needs govenrment cash to offset the costs

Was it, I thought it was because they wanted us to work all our hours? Then again, we are all work shy, overpaid, lazy sods, so it could have just been the money.

Way I see it we have 3 choices
1 Tell everyone whats happening to thier mail service, either through word of mouth or as an extra sneaky door to door ( oops where did that come from )
2 Mobilise the troops and once 100% behind it all of us refuse to deliver downstream mail ( like to see them try to sack every Postie in the country )
3 Set up our own Postal Company. steal all the business from TNT DHL etc etc, yes we poor buggars would still have to deliver it but if we the Postal Workers were the shareholders then at least we should benefit from any profits our own mail company made. I'm seroiusly looking into getting a Postal Operators Licence.

The Royal MAIL /T.N.T/SINGAPORE POST are already a joint company in the Netherlands , they are the worlds biggest mail distributors.
If you read the article on hellmail.co.uk " Postal services act needs urgent revision" you will see that THERE HAS BEEN A MASSIVE COVER UP !

Yes, there has been a massive cover up---for nearly two years, R.M have been making dodgy deals with their
so called competitors--the writing has been on the wall for a long time now,and anyone who is still thinking they can turn back the clock is mistaken..And, where have the Union been all this time, instead of protecting our original contracts
from day one, they have allowed and encouraged us to accept change after change.

So lateones mates are now with all intent and purpose are set to grab a portion of royal fail with the help of his friends at the top no wonder he showed no further intrest in another year or so contract with r.m (not that he'd be welcomed by the staff) how long has this devious creep been lining them up for an asault at r.m ?

Will this do? All TNT are doing is offering a enhanced service for which they get paid from the customer sending out the leaflets. If not already then RML need to offer a rival enahnced service so as to boots income.
