Re: Fighting RM
You know what to do then mate ! The union jobs are up for election each year - so instead of moaning about things put your name forward and give it a go. You will find as a rep you will be fighting both the management and your own members but someones got to do it. You won't be on your own although it often feels like it. You have a union branch with full time officials. USE THEM. If you don't know pester them until you find out. You'll get there. We need good reps now more than ever.

Re: Fighting RM
I transferred last year from an office with no union to one with a strong union, the difference is amazing. At my old office no one wanted to be a rep because the DOM was aggressive and uncooperative, he therefore did what he liked and it wasn't good. As soon as I changed office I joined the union, best thing I did but I am a little surprised that they (the union) aren't resisting some of the enforced changes a little stronger than they are. The union rep seems to be a little out of his depth and I am not sure how much support he gets from the union bosses.

Re: Fighting RM
I guess you didn't notice the differences from the offer in April 2007 to what we got in November. Ok it was not perfect but it was better than what they wanted to give. I count that as a success as without a union we would have suffered a £30 per week reduction on take home pay for more work, just because of 1 part of the proposal. They wanted to increase D2Ds but not pay us anything at all. If that does not count as a success I wonder what will.Night Tonic wrote:Let me know when they succeed thenrowdogg wrote:love the way the union and some posties fight the RM hierachy in order to save jobs make working conditions better etc

Re: Fighting RM
your union reps need your support more than ever we are only as strong as our members!
as a CWU H&S Rep its a constant struggle with our our members as much as management who you expect to be clueless!
one postie at our do whines everyday why am i not doing enough about the lack of space we have to work in (a matter which is an ongoing dispute with myself & our DOM & his bosses) then he hops into his ford focus with all his pouches after starting an hour early free of charge!!!!!
anyone out there using a car on delivery? can you justify it?
happy new year everyone........dont let the bastards grind u down.... :lfo :cfo

Re: Fighting RM
Yep 2hr flexibility that RM originally wanted ended up being 30min which is a complete waste of time and has been scrapped at our office due high demand of payback with staff wanting to finish 30mins earlier!!!Night Tonic wrote:Let me know when they succeed thenrowdogg wrote:love the way the union and some posties fight the RM hierachy in order to save jobs make working conditions better etc
Thats the only way to stop it being implemented folks. f**k RM managers.

The fact that you can stay on to 65 if you want to is down to the CWU.Night Tonic wrote:Let me know when they succeed thenrowdogg wrote:love the way the union and some posties fight the RM hierachy in order to save jobs make working conditions better etc
A few years back RM wanted to make retirement at 60 compulsory.
Of course now they want to make posties have to work to 65.

Re: Fighting RM
perhaps instead of fight the word should of been challenge.as the hierachy of royal mail have little or no regard for the union i still think that they (r.m)could of engaged the cwu to more open and friutful negotiation.instead we have distrust,an example of this pt 3 of the latest agreement states no change to start times unless agreed locally, our rep was informed that royal mail were changing the start times before christmas, like it or lump it,so we are going through the i/r framework.that is why we have to challenge for the total disregard towards staff.this also is not for ourselves we are worried that the small businesses and large businesses which base alot of their workload around the reciept of mail will abandon us first chance they get .

This is why RMC is so important to all RM workers --------it gives us the ordinary guys,a powerful voice,&
we can learn from colleagues from all over the country on how to tackle most issues which effect a posties life.
Use the knowledge of this forum to back up your reps---it does work ,our management stand gauping like goldfish at some of the things
our reps tell them ,they simply cant believe how good our information is & its all been gained from RMC![]()
