Have you ever considered the possibity that your area rep might be getting bad comms from CWU HQ?
Is he keeping you up to date with area stuff, even if its to say area management are keeping stumm about there plans?

My local rep is very active in his role, pity that the national lot dont seem as motivated in defending us as he does

A little birdie tells me that Any letters or info that Dave wants to put out to the membership has to go through various depts for clearence which could take weeks before we hear anythingBig Daz wrote:Have you ever considered the possibity that your area rep might be getting bad comms from CWU HQ?

At the moment they will be finishing off the mince pies with a large glass of port, smoking cigars and wondering how they can put a spin on the outcome which turns defeat into victory again. They'll be wondering how to increase the subs substantially whilst negotiating a minimal pay increase, bearing in mind 2008 saw a majestic increase of 1.5% whilst inflation was twice that. There'll be a meeting of the glitterati certain to ratify even more agreements that denigrate our working conditions, that's if they can get any worse. I've just got back from Boots they have a 2 for 1 on a certain preparation in a tube.

Ive been getting the feeling for a while now that Dave is more militant than others at HQ so perhaps he is being slightly muzzled.
Of course I could have just totally lost the plot and be talking complete garbage.

Who would be muzzling him? What we do need is a plan of action carried out without fear or favour with the memberships best interests at heart. I sometimes think, no not sometimes it's always now, that there is less attention given to the day to day problems facing the workforce and more attention given to what is best for the CWU and they are NOT one and the same.Big Daz wrote:Ive been getting the feeling for a while now that Dave is more militant than others at HQ so perhaps he is being slightly muzzled.

DW is very much more anti labour than BH, but BH is national officer responsible for political affairs (conference voted against having thses responsibities being passed to a new dedicted political officer as put forward by east Midlands branch)
I dont think DW is always allowed to speak his mind about Labour as fully as he might wish to. I suppose its the old collective responsibity thing.

Normally id defend HQ to the hilt as they have a very, very tricky path to tread.
But at the moment, when we've never been in such uncertain times, there appears to be no clear strategy or direction
being shown. In fact we've had nothing for a while now.Even the cliched rhetoric has dried up !
Not good.

Re: So what is the union actually doing??
given the seriousness of the situation and the need for activity with some haste i might add it is not really that surprising that our leaders have penciled in the 15th of Jan. This being 1 month after the report was announced and possibly with those in attendance to include area reps and above who, in my experiance are all on full time release.
Here is the problem they claim not to have enough time to visit all their DO's or MC's or DC's so they may or more likely may not arrange a meeting for 2 to 3 or more weeks after the 15th putting us some time in feb or late to explain why the report was going to get no better and how we must now accept this as the best thing for us all. This will be coupled with poor comms (a faceless, resposibility void deptartment) as the reason for the monstrous U-turn by HQ.

Ah = so there is some movement then it is PENCILLED in so that's ok then. I would imagine there are delivery offices all over the UK in total disarray with pegasus/geo route park and loop, flexibility and all the other crap that's floating about. Here we have the the biggest threat yet and we have a pencilled in meeting that may or may not be delayed. If I saw the area Rep in my DO talking about these changes I'd show my arse on the Town Hall steps. It is time for HQ to have some bottle and call area meetings for ALL members to attend, where the leadership are told in no uncertain terms what we expect and what will happen if they don't deliver - money talks, and if they don't have any they don't have a job.bogstandard wrote:given the seriousness of the situation and the need for activity with some haste i might add it is not really that surprising that our leaders have penciled in the 15th of Jan. Will lunch be included, coffee, biscuits? Is 3 hours really enough to discuss all the implications of the changes affecting all the attendees?

We could all do with a copy of the agenda, but I think I would forego the pleasure of reading "My Kerouac Days"
