Mailbag stolen from postal worker

POLICE are hunting for two men suspected of stealing a mail bag from a postal worker.

Two men stole the bag from a woman post worker in Kings Road, Southminster, at 2pm on Saturday December 27.

The suspects then made off towards the High Street in a blue X-registration Ford Fiesta.

Sgt Richard Miller, of Maldon police, said: “This is an extremely unusual type of crime for our district and we are particularly keen for anybody who may have heard who is responsible to please come foward in order that we can catch these people.

“We are also interested to hear from anyone who found the mailbag or anything connected with it.”

One of the suspects was wearing a light blue hoodie with stripes down the sleeves.

The other man wore a dark hoodie.

If the date was BEFORE Christmas, I would understand your suspicions. But it happened on the 27th. So it's unlikley that there would have been much of high value, compared to a few days earlier. Surely, if the Postie was lying, then it would have been better to do so a few days earlier?

But what you need to bear in mind though. Is that although this particular type of crime is still unusual. It's becoming more common for Posties to be robbed on their rounds. Because of all the articles in the Press, about theives getting high value items from these types of theft. For example: There was a case recently, where some Binmen, successfully retrieved a Royal Mail Bike, from an opportunist thief. As if there wasn't enough to worry about, with Dog attacks!

We had 2 instances of it happening this year and yet still 1 postie left his bag on the wall when going in to an address, unfortunately for him the DOM was doing a sweep of walks and is his want sometimes, and found it and suspended him on the spot. Sacked in the end.
