part time on full time

hi all.

how is your part time job going..

just sat thinking about me on a 25 hour contract lol i think im bored ?
im always on full time walks on full time hours basically as i throw the walk in and work the full 8 hour ( i just claim the rest on a over time sheet )

the downside to this as you no is that my finishing time is 2pm
and an 8 hour men / woman is 15.15pm were i work.

when i need to finish at my time the odd day i get made to feel so guilty even though ive done my part and have to finish.
but i think its not my fault at the end of the day

has anyone here been in the same situation
why not the full time contracts ????? will they ever be back
plus i cant see how it saves money if im claiming full time hours?
also it is annoying how i work my ass off to get part of the xmas bonus lol.

They save the money when it comes to your bonuses, sick pay and holiday pay. Royal Mail Managers care not about 'what's right' and will screw you sideways so they can get a fatter bonus at your expense. For example you could work full time hours all year but when you go sick or take a week off, guess what? Yep, they pay you 25 hours not 40.

If you get grief when you work to your time (never call it cutting off) then inform the Manager that its illegal to force you to work overtime against your will. Have a union rep with you if you want.

Why part time? Saves them more money
Will they be back? When hell freezes over.

Yes you are working effectively full time hrs and your thinking yeah this is good but when it comes to bonuses sick pay and pension they have you bang to rights as it's all pro-rata. If you want to just work your hours then that's fine, it annoys me when part-timers say they feel pressured to do more - you and RM entered into a CONTRACT. Stuff 'em.

If however you aspire to f/t duty then it's gunna be difficult in this climate. You could try working your hours and that is it, your DOM may make you to f/t? Worth a try.. And don't feel guilty, that's what you signed up to and they can't CC at all.

p/t contracts remove earnings from the office, not only for those p/t employees wishing to go f/t but also those f/t employees wishing to perform overtime.

As has already been stated p/timers lose out or maybe miss out, via payments on anual leave and bonuses paid on a pro-rata basis this saves the business an untold amount of money.
In my experiance o/t is allocated to the person with the lowest hours via the volunteer tick up sheet.
What's happening here is p/timers being paid flat money for what is essentially o/t to them. O/t which they may not have indicated a willingness to perfrom via the volunteer sheets but are being given/offered ahead of those who have volunteered to perform o/t thus saving the business x amount of £'s.
I want those who are p/t but wish to go f/t to be made up to f/t don't get me wrong, p/timers covering f/t posts should be made f/t, because unless these issues are addressed, once mechanisation gets up to full steam there will be no f/t positions to offer p/timers.

it is a shame about pro rate like but i will have to put up with it .

i mean if it all went to plan
were i do the delivery only it would be ok
but like i say it will never happen.
i have gone in to the office at 9am to a new frame id never done and the letters had not been touched and it took me to my time to get in threw in haha

i also dont understand how the managers get a big bonus for us working our asses off ?
hows that work then lol
i think ill have a word with them and say look
im missing £35 from my xmas bonus can i have it please

It is the manager's job to save all hour's possible as this earn's their bonus and will help them gain promotion and an even bigger bonus!. Don't give it to them make them work for it!.

My DOM doesn't take out any walks, he relies on the handful of docket grabbers to deliver everything (except those bit he can't get delivered ) but our budget is shot to pieces (it looks like it could top 5000 hours this year ) I suppose if we had a couple of FT staff to replace the ones we lost things would be better (oh, and we could get rid of one of our managers to help the budget).

A couple of duties went from PT to delivery only but none of the FT duties went to PT but had PT staff doing them for FT. I think that's right

if a full timer is in your office does the round get thrown in for them before they arrive.
i have noticed that the sub offices never do it as they have no time by time mail comes etc.....

in the main sorting offices they get thrown in because there like 50 managers lol

Try finding out what your unit reps position is, then do the same for your branch officials and delegates to conference. If you do not like their answers then stand,or vote against them. Personally I don't see why you should be expected to do a full time job for part time rewards

how do people survive if they only did 25 hour a week

as more and more people leave
part time contract available
no one will apply for it as they wont be able to manage with out goings etc....

i mean i have to do over time
to get buy but if its not there am fooked for the week lol and i live at home lol

I've today been told that I will now go onto a 25 hour contract from my casual position. Does anyone know what roughly the hourly rate works out to be? Or what your taking home weekly once tax/nat insurance have been deducted?
