It was ajar at the time according to reports - it was closed the next day after the attack - they did not film the actual attack.

The trouble is though most dog owners have no idea what their dog is like when they are not there. I've been bitten on numerous occasions though thankfully not serious enough to need medical attention (other than a tetanus jab) . I've lost count of the number of times the owner has said afterwards, "Well he's never done that before".

Got bitten by a staffy on the knee about 6 years ago and the owner still refuses to believe his dog bit me. Still has the hump that he got a letter about his "lovely" dog. FFS his wife was standing talking to me when it bloody bit me and saw the blood running down my leg!!!

Had a recorded just this week and when the woman came to the door I asked her to make sure the dog (which has already had me) couldn't get through to the front door and she got huffed about it.

As far as I'm concerned if a property has a dog then we should be making sure that there is a box outside of the property so we're not put at risk.

Obvously this didn't work for Keith and I hope he makes a good recovery and sues the arse of this bloke.

Funnily enough I've never met a bad Border Terrier or grehound/whippet

Mr Davies was filling in for the regular postman on a round when the dogs got past the gates of a large property.

Anthony said the dogs had burst through a magnetic side gate as Mr Davies was delivering letters.

He went on: 'It seems both dogs threw their full force against the magnetic gate and it flew open. He tried to run but the dogs lunged at him. By the time we reached him he was in a neighbour's garden with one arm already half ripped off. I'm still in shock. It was just horrific.'

An interesting and thought provoking letter by the Kennel Club.

I think it's awful. I was bitten by a dog after only being in the job a few weeks and I wasn't even in that dog's garden, I was next door! Luckily all I needed was a tetanus jab.

There should've been something in his walk log about the dogs but if they actually came OFF the property and attacked him then prior knowledge wouldn't have helped him anyway.

As someone else quite rightly said, what if there had been children playing on the road outside the property and these dogs just decided to push thru and maul them? Would we now be saying it's the kids' fault for doing what kids do?! How dare they be on a public right of way and get in the way of 2 vicious and obviously mental dogs?

Anyone who thinks that this is a perfectly acceptable situation and that the postie is to blame should experience what he's going thru and then see whether they feel the same way.

Another sustained Rottweiler attack to the arms, this time against someone who was actually feeding and looking after the dog. Rottweillers are NOT unique in being sometimes very aggressive or unpredictable but when they do attack they are so powerful the the damage they do can be life changing. They are far too powerful to be allowed in the domestic environment full stop.

Bang up the owners for 12 years for attempted murder. Dogs do what dogs do, some of it is nature some of it is training. Drive a car at 70 then decide to have 10mins shut eye and subsequently plough into a crowd at the school gates, youll get banged up. Out of control 70mph cars do what cars do,it ain't the cars fault

Rotweilers, Dobermans, Pitbulls, Alsations, Japanese Akita are some of the breeds I wouldn't mind seeing extinct and consigned into the history books.
