I cant see why Royal Mail cannot just take all the money availbale to it from Govt - and just blitz the entire network, install new machines, amalgamate MCs and reduce the labour burden as much as poss, that does not mean massive job cuts - mail still has to be delivered & collected and of course, this new machinary will require operators to manage it. I want to see Royal Mail do this by itself, there is no need for TNT to come in, we can do this with public money.

Everyone can opt-out and the option has been there for years. I just happened to stumble across one before I joined RM and as I won't be working no I won't be contributing back into a pension I didn't pay into in the first place. Given the sheer volume of pensions wiped out over the years, i don't see why everyone else should carry the can on the RM pension either if as some seem to believe, the deficit was due to the pension holiday. How right T-man is. Same old replies.

If they'd bothered to put the effort in, and fight for theirs. We'd be contributing to it. They lacked the backbone to fight for what they were contractually entitled to, so they lost out. Why should we be penalised for their weakness?

In a strange way he must have been listening because if as Hooper and Mandy suggest the government take on the pension deficit and associated holdings, then every tax payer in the country will be supporting our pensions.
