I see where you're coming from Disgruntled but actually Tman got abuse the moment he arrived because he had a different viewpoint so you can hardly blame him for being frosty. I get similar from axeman every time I post but I relish his desperate attempts to be insulting and besides, he's easy to poke with a stick. I'm probably the least appreciative of the union but that is my perogative entirely whether people agree or not. Tman does make some great points when hes given space to do so and without his devils advocate standpoint, we might just as well have a big picture of Adam Crozier at the top and throw darts at it cos lets be real, thats 90% of what the site does. It doesn't have any impact on anything or change anything and probably convinces the casual visitor that posties are stuck in a time warp.
He's right in saying as a few others do, that if you don't like the job find another. Thats the same for any kind of employment. If I was that unhappy in the job I'd have left a long time ago but whinging about everything and anything makes it worse and if anyone is pinning their hopes on the union to dig them out, forget it.

As I've said before: Education isn't just a means to an end. It's a way of maintaining your intelectual capacity. Just because they don't NEED qualifications, doesn't mean that they don't HAVE qualifications. Some will, and some won't.Tman wrote:.There are many, very well qualified Posties
Yeah, I've heard that too, many times. "I'm a brickie/plumber/sparks/mechanic, I am" they say, and the standard reply is, "course you are mate, and that's why you're a postie now. Were you crap at it, or just a bull-shi***r?"
No. There are several of my Collegues with excellent qualifications. I can't speak for them. But in my case, I see no reason not to get a god Education, just because I don't need it for my Job.
The Brain works on a "use it or loose it" system. If you don't excercise your Brain, it will deteriorate. And I value my intelect. Do I take it, you aren't bothered about your intellect, so long as you can do your job?
Come off it Andy, we're all here for the money. So we would be just as capable of getting a better paid job as you are. But we actually WANT to help to provide an important service to the Public.
If you really believe that. Then I pity you. There are more important things in life than money. For example: The satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed to an important service for the Public
Err, have you looked at some of the RM staff recently? So why do you think that a lot of us wouldn't be able to get a job outside of RM?
Err, yes. For example: One of my Collegues builds, and repairs Computers. As well as holding down a job at RM. He could make more money, doing that full time. But he CHOOSES to stay at RM.
As a genre, I think we can be fairly sure they don't emanate from leafy stock-broker belts in the Home Counties, and I doubt education was a high priority in the White Van driver interview....I don't actually know many "White Van Men", so I can't be sure what type of qualifications they tend to have. But why do you assume that they aren't inteligent?
I'm quite sure that they would be deeply ofended by your insinuation.
I don't actually know many of them, personally. So I can't be sure, one way or another. But why would you assume that they wouldn't be inteligent, or well educated?
Stockbrokers aren't the only people with good qualifications.

i actually find you more infuriating than Mr Tman , why the hell do you spend so much time on here reading about people whinging etc, when according to you nothing can ever change ? have you read the report today about the 50 MPS opposed to Mandelsons ideas ? i mean why are they bothering ? why did the Dundee MP pack his job in ? Why have working class people fought for fairness throughout history , something you need to seriously read about and the fight goes on today . tell me , how long have you worked for RM ? we would all love to go and get a better job whatever that might be and many do , but i would like to live in a society where we all have respect for each other and value each other contributions . what do you think of your local roadsweeper when you look out of your window, is he doing a worthwhile job or is he a waster who couldnt do any better ?Night Tonic wrote:I see where you're coming from Disgruntled but actually Tman got abuse the moment he arrived because he had a different viewpoint so you can hardly blame him for being frosty. "Peter Mandelson is facing months of conflict with his own party after Labour MPs last night rallied behind an alternative vision for the future of Royal Mail and a campaign to kill his plans for its part-privatisation.
The Observer has established that prominent backbenchers and former ministers are working with the pressure groups Compass and the independent New Economics Foundation on a detailed blueprint for a modern, wholly publicly owned Royal Mail linked to a new people's bank that would serve all local communities.
Supporters of the rebel plan - who will launch their ideas in the House of Commons in the new year - are confident that they will win support from more than 100 Labour MPs fiercely opposed to legislation being planned by ministers for 30 per cent of Royal Mail - the last major nationalised industry - be hived off to foreign, private sector operators."-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What do you think Mr NT should they bother ?, no whats the point
really

sussed him out straight away & so did Belai (calling him the twister man ) - it's so obvious that it's ROMEC v Delivery / Distribution / Processing - I can understand people being very cynical and jaundiced if they are in a very fractional APC but even most cynical or critical people would prefer to be proven wrong or surprised .disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Tman does nothing for this site, whilst yourself and Fossiebear make some good points, he does nothing but insult others (while showing a lack of understanding for everything) and brings nothing to any argument.Night Tonic wrote:Disagree - Tman keeps this place alive. As I've said before it would just be a whinge room for grumpy old men otherwise and nowt to look forward to except the end of the thread. He's like a bright candle in a darkened room. A ray of hope amongst many an otherwise outspoken but generally downbeat collection of posts, many of which go round in circles anyway.
As Postmen said some people are chasing others across the board for a row and some people are daft enough to take the bait , also TBT did give a warning that it's turning into a playground or it's the I'm cleverer than you , so there bit and added a baby picture to his post .
It's always the same story , something too critical of New Labour or RM so let's start a row - the Jeremy Kyle of RMC

The thing is I think you actually wonder why most of the active members on here dislike and dismiss your posts and views yet all you have to do is read the line I quoted above and realise how it would be read by a board full of posties.
These comments of course only my personal views and not those of any other Admin or Moderator on here, perhaps your Modus Operandi of posting on here may change and I sincerely hope they do.

I dunno, you boys, eh?
Ultimately, this is just a debating shop, a talking forum, and nothing more, so why do you lot these things get to you? Haven't you noticed the way letters pages in papers like to print different/controversial letters to stimulate debate? Ever considered why they do that?
NT is right, in that without different points of view, RMC would revert to how it was some time back, when it was purely pages of :mfo :mfo :mfo from the same old faces (now apparently departed) which neither looks good to the casual passers-by, or makes good reading for the regulars.
So, to continue the thread, whether you, your mate, the bloke in the registered cage or the canteen girl think/claim/wannabe anything from airline pilots to micro-surgeons is (unfortunately) irrelevant, because RM classes us as the grades we are because of the job we do, and that's that. Life's hard, ain't it, but there ARE no "yeah buts" and that's the bottom line.
Whether good old TBT thinks that's a snobbish attitude or not is up to him,(though as ex-military he should be used to that) but it doesn't change anything. Look at the wage slip; that's what you're worth to RM, and if you really don't like it or think you're worth more, then do something about it.
As the old maxim goes if it "walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.........etc etc".

If moderating sees the back of Tman then this place would shrivel up like a prune. We'd end up with thousands of threads, if there isn't enough already, of what people would like to do with Crozier. Talk is cheap and if you don't have faith in the union, government or RM bosses then its already over and theres nothing left to talk about.
And Borders, if you're not comfortable with my posts or opinion, then find a comfier chair.
