How would you react ?
I have been working for Royal Mail since September. A couple of weeks ago I had something quite bizarre happen to me and I am just interested to know how many of you would've reacted in the same situation.
I was delivering mail to my last street which happens to be an estate set behind a college. Students occassionally use this street as a shortcut to get to a nearby train station. As I said, I only had a few doors left and one of them was a package delivery, so I knocked the door - waiting for a response. All of a sudden I hear the sound of a 'chipped stone' - I thought, possibly, that by knocking the door too hard I had disrupted some stonework or something, however, it happened again. I turned around and to my surprise I saw a student (about 18-19 years old, 5'10) stood about 15-20 metres away throwing stones at me - about the size of your standard cotswold chippings. I looked at him in utter bewilderment as he remarked ' What the f**k are you going to do about it' ?
So there's your predicament, 'what would you do about it' ? I'll let you know what happened after I've heard a few responses ...

The first thing you should do is report it to your manager, it's then up to him/her to deal with it.
And welcome to the world of RM deliveries
insults, stones and snowballs have all been thrown at me (not to mention a few guns pointed at me
accidently of course).

The answer to what would you do is determined by the fact that u are in uniform! You have to act professionally especially if there are witnesses. I would either take my phone out and get a picture of him and take it round to the Police, make a statement and watch as his ass is possibly kicked out of college/charged with assault. Or I might throw my bag down and try to smack him about a bit. It all depends on if he comes from the area and might get his mates involved if you smack him about, that could make your job a pain in which case taking the legal route is best course. Like u tho I'd be well taken back by that, never had more than "Hey Pat!" thrown at me.

I'd have dropped my bag, rushed over to him and headbutted the f***** and said, "That's what!"
Well, that's what I'd LIKE to do, but I'd probably just shout some abuse back at him. Unfortunately there are t**** all over the country, and they're not all young kids either.

i have'nt met a scum bag wise enough to get the better of me yet i have had quite a few nose to nose debates with twats who think i'm there for their abusement only for them to back down shaking my hand apologising or turning tail and running off with the promise of a charge of interfering with the queens mail or just throwing me bag down and saying right c'mon then lets do it now or threaten to smash into their shiny car with me battered old postie van letting them know i'll have a nice new one waiting for me the next day had one bloke nearly in tears after he questioned my driving abilities but alas time is not on my side anymore and with the ever increasing reports of violent crime and me mellowing in my old age i think i'll have to buy me a tazer

Or if you dont want to involve the police, complain to the college direct. They can impose punishments on misbehaving students that will affect him more seriously than a charge that he would probably get off from.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Mum always said that if anyone hits me I should hit them back harder. likewise if anyone throws a stone at me, best look for a brick and fill them in properly. That way they wont come near me again.
