Postman's Christmas message from Kosovo

A BRIDGWATER postman has sent his family a special Christmas message from thousands of miles away.

Nick Pippard, a Warrant Officer in the Territorial Army, will be making sure British troops serving with NATO in the central European republic of Kosovo get their festive mail on time - and he will be spending Christmas Day away from his family for the first time.

Nick has been serving with the TA since 1993 and has been a postman for just over 18 years.

He has previously served in Iraq and Bosnia and has been in Pristina in Kosovo since the end of November and is due to return home in March.

Nick said: “The thing I miss most about Bridgwater is my wife Dawn and children Kimberley and Robert. It is a bit strange being away from the family at Christmas but we are all very well looked after out here.

“There are various things planned for Christmas and new year, such as quizzes and sporting competitions.

“The people in Pristina are very friendly and Kosovo is still undergoing improvements to the roads and hospitals.

“I would just like to wish my family a very happy Christmas and new year. I miss you lots and will see you all in March.”

Nick's wife Dawn said: “We miss him lots and keep in touch via his phone card and Facebook.

“It is disappointing he won't be with us but he has always been with the military so we get used to it.

“I would just like to thank Ian and Val Harris and all my other friends, plus my colleagues and family for the support they have given us since he has been away.

“Merry Christmas, Nick. We miss you and love you lots and cannot wait to see you.”
