The insinuation of what? I didn't suggest for one minute that white van men lacked intelligence, it was the element of enjoying a 50 mile commute. You are obviously extrapolating a personal impression on to others posts. I would agree that the level of intelligence isn't indicative of employment, many chose the path of least resistance later in life.andy2007 wrote:What has inteligence got to do with your choice of job?fmrPOSTIE wrote:I left because i got my qualifications at college, and then f****d off out of there, i've now got a decent job with decent benefits basic pay is 19k a yr, 9-5 fri finish at 3pm. and why would i become white van man? im too intelligent for that!
Everybodies got a choice in life, some people are happy working for RM, alot it has to be said could never get a job outside of RM. Regarding the mail centre closures, Royal Mail will not change its mind over this, it doesn't matter who you get onside.
There are many, very well qualified Posties. So we would be just as capable of getting a better paid job as you are. But we actually WANT to help to provide an important service to the Public.
So why do you think that a lot of us wouldn't be able to get a job outside of RM?
I don't actually know many "White Van Men", so I can't be sure what type of qualifications they tend to have. But why do you assume that they aren't inteligent?
I'm quite sure that they would be deeply ofended by your insinuation.

Yeah i know RM has got plenty of well qualified people working for it, but the majority are working class men with little qualifications. All im saying is Royal Mail has to change and arguing over mail centre closures is missing the point, these sites have to be amalgamted & improved as new technology is brought in. It will also save money.
Accept it.
Everybody will be offered a job (and yes its unfortunate for the 17hr part timers etc.) but im sure RM will look at each case individually. The union should be focussing on a benefits package for employees and assistance for the move, not focussing on the fact the building will close.
And axeman: why cant i have a interest in the company? i want it to be the best postal service in the world and i've had the priviledge of working there.
Accept it.

I was in the Military and the "Peace Dividend" of the 90s meant that they made me redundant whilst I was sitting in a Bunker just outside Sarajevo - You may need to rethink your position when they pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan as I am sure there will be another short sighted Peace Dividend from the politicians.fmrPOSTIE wrote:No chance, i work for the military, they dont feel recessions.......k979aaa wrote:Quote "We will work with the CWU and all change will be negotiated" Pay and modenization agreement 2007!. Well a lot has changed in the 13 months since this agreement and if management don't wish to negotiate then stike's are our only option to defend our right's under the so called agreement which royalmail signed up too as well as the CWU!. It's a bit rich from you to say if you don't like it find another job it's like saying if i want to rob a post office don't a oppose me or you only have yourself too blame if you get shot!.Well judging the economic situation you will soon find yourself back at ROYALMAIL in reduced term's and condition's as many other's have found themself's!.

I know a number of ex forces who left under exactly those circumstances - we have experienced a number of ongoing conflicts which has necessitated the retention of troops BUT - there hasn't been a massive recruitment drive and overall there is a shortfall. Although when we sign on we actively seek conflict there has been, in my opinion, an unfair burden on frontline troops in recent years where insufficient numbers mean rotation is not of the best quality. Even the hardiest of men need R&R of quality.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I was in the Military and the "Peace Dividend" of the 90s meant that they made me redundant whilst I was sitting in a Bunker just outside Sarajevo - You may need to rethink your position when they pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan as I am sure there will be another short sighted Peace Dividend from the politicians.fmrPOSTIE wrote:No chance, i work for the military, they dont feel recessions.......k979aaa wrote:Quote "We will work with the CWU and all change will be negotiated" Pay and modenization agreement 2007!. Yes I work for SERCO not at AWE but a similar site. AWE is a private company anyway operated under a GOCO. The site is still owned by the government. The union is correct when this will just be the start of eventual full privatization for RM. Everybody has to campaign for 100% ownership.k979aaa wrote:They our govenment has just sold it's share's in the atomic weapon's establishment it need's all the cash it can get after bailing out the bank's just 100 billion pound's!. having an intrest is ok but please don't comment on something that staff still working at royal fail have a vested intrest and have the right to feel a tad disenchanted at present. And if your as inteligent as you claim to be keep your juvinile comments to your self as they are attempts to wind posties up .
just hope that your job goes tits up for you in the near future .....merry christmas

You say leave out the juvinile comments then in the same sentance some of you come back with exactly that. Look at the end of the day I'm with you on the fight to keep RM fully public. The mail centre closures do make proper business sense it might not seem logical to sort mail at out of town centres with better transport access but it is. If eveyones mail where to be sorted in their own town RM would be (is) grossly inefficient. We know this because of the profit margins / efficiencies of other postal operators. I don't agree with everything in the hooper review but for him to suggest up to half of MCs should close says something about how little RM has come. I've never heard of a postie being forcibly layer-off. And no, I don't want to come back couldn't accept the drop in salary.k979aaa wrote:Let us not just cast him a side he has some good but also some BAD comment's no one should hope anyone loses thier job's in these hard time's apart form the greedy banker's and the corrupt CEO'S :cfo and the Bullsh*ting chairmen :lfo of the world!. If it the mail were not sorted in the local area what time would you expect delivery does not make a hill of bean's unless you happen to own a small business which employs one third of the uk workforce i suspect you only care about your for-ma pension and not of those who chose to fight for the service or the staff and their future and thier pension right's!.fmrPOSTIE wrote:You say leave out the juvinile comments then in the same sentance some of you come back with exactly that.
