Contracts
Hi all
I've had a look around the forums and haven't seen a topic that is related to mine so hope this the right place as I'm new here!
My partner is on a 6 month contract which is due to end in a few months time. I was wondering what happens when the contract is up? Do you get assessed and offered a new contract or does that mean end of being a postman? Obviously it's a super busy time at the moment and he was given a reminder about it today so with him being out I thought I'd do some investigating for him!
I'd appreciate some advice on the matter! Thank you in advance.

I would imagine the option would be there to renew the contract if they wished, but they also have the option of terminating it as well without penalty.
New permanent have a six months trial to begin with to access their abilities, this is not the same as a temporary six month contract.
Can he not ask the line managers what his position is?

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Just to clarify..Rach wrote:Thank you for the speedy reply!
I'm sure he will, I only spoke to him a short while ago and me being the panicker that I am I thought I'd get online and see if I could find any info out.
Thanks again
Is this a temp contract, for six months, or was he worried about being near to the end of the six month trial?

I'm sure if he keeps his nose clean and doesn't upset his manager then he may well get a permanent contract, it just depends on the manager. I started as a casual several years ago (just to tide me over Christmas) but am still here
.
BTW is he on delivery or in a mail centre?

MC will be the next area for big cuts
whilst deliveries should be left alone (we've taken the brunt of all cost cutting recently with no decrease in mail), but just relax, unless your husband makes any major mistakes or rubs the DOM up the wrong way he should be kept on (but you never know what'll happen in the RM circus, we could all be out on strike in 6 months
).

, we'll SAY we're going on strike, we'll hold an expensive ballot, we'll rattle the sabre and then - lo and behold at the eleventh hour there will be a major breakthrough and new talks will be scheduled and we'll be back scuttled again.
