Post service improving in Sevenoaks, claims MP

THE POSTAL delivery service in the Sevenoaks area is improving, the town's MP has said.

Michael Fallon made an early morning visit to the sorting office in South Park to see how staff were coping with the Christmas rush.

It came as the postal service nationally is under increasing pressure.

A Government report is expected to suggest part privatising Royal Mail, prompting fears for its long-term future.

Meanwhile, pre-Christmas strikes planned in some parts of the country and a row over alleged demands for postmen to walk quicker have also dogged the service over the past week.

But this is not the story at Sevenoaks, Mr Fallon claimed.

After his visit the Conservative politician declared: "Service from Sevenoaks is improving and morale seems high.

"Internet shopping has increased business for the Royal Mail and the postal staff are working very long days."

Mr Fallon added: "People who miss their parcel deliveries can now pick them up at any time throughout the day from South Park. The sorting office stays open until 7.30pm for collections which is good news for those who are at work when their postman calls."
