I never ever thought i would think anything like this, but i am tempted to vote tory next time around rather than this bunch of lying backstabbers

doesnt this report make croziers position unatenable ?surely it highlights all the failures under his stewardship.brown would be better to sack him and cut leightons bonus(golden handshake)to zilch.

My view is, That once all you silly so and so's voted for the Pay and Modenisation Agreement, That was the beginning of the end.
4.5 hour Deliveries (which are being trialed around the country)
Mail Centre closures, even though those that are currently going through the mill at the moment did not help there cause by not standing by the agreement for modenisation and are now playing into Lord Mandleson's hand. i.e Mail Centre that are a drain on the resources of Royal Mail
New improved walk sorting machines to take away our sorting times except the missorts obviously.
However TNT, I didn't see that one coming.
I believe we may take over there parcel side of the business and TNT process all PPI work within major cities, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edingborough, Dartford, Southampton, Cardiff. i.e a striaght line through the heart of the country.
My view on Billy Hayes, Just another power hungry man of the CWU trying to one foot in the door of Parliment.
Apart from that all this really is about is you and I, Doing Our Jobs Right as laid out by our employer Royal Mail. They and the CWU have Agreements in place to safe guard our Health and Safety at Work, How many of you CUT CORNERS to finish early and how many of you go to work in AUTOMATIC MODE and if things are not running smoothly that day, how many of you start screaming, shouting and stomping your feet because your automatic mode has been interfered with and all you can think about is, "oh this is going make me right late now"

Chill out do the job right and you will have a job for life, however if some of you get a power crazy DOM or Section Manager, then use the Rules laid out by Royal Mail and the CWU, this is what we pay our do's for to have these agreements and if your Unit Rep and Area Rep are inexperianced, go to Headquarters and Royal Mails own Human Resources.
Reduce your CWU Payment and ask Headquaters for a Political Fund Exemption Form.
This man :lfo has jumped ship, washed his hands of it and come April 2009 a new era of Royal Mail will be born..
Still not happy about the TNT part as not sure if they will stand for strikes, my view is they would rather shut the doors sack everyone within the striking unit that did strike, it seems that TNT could be a PUT UP AND SHUT UP FIRM.

Hi . New poster and all that. 11 years and counting at the front line.

So now we know why Brown brought back Mandelson. A man already asked to resign from his post twice because he wasn't to be trusted to be honest in the mother of all Parliaments.

Any other MP would have run a mile when faced with the prospect of having to sell off one of the governments crown jewels so they bring in a man who has nothing to lose to do the hatchet job. Then he'll be off to some other well paid job courtesy of the taxpayer (me).

Guy Fawkes had the right idea.

I have read most of the report, but the executive summary provides enough information.

This report would get a fail if submitted at school or university. The conclusions are not based on consistent facts. They are selective and if you begin to read the report in detail you will see how complicite RoyalMail have been in informing the conclusions in the report.

As I mentioned in a post yesterday Alex Smith is the principle architect behind this. For example the volumes falling statistic is based on RoyalMail modelling, yet that modelling has been shown to be inaccurate with actual figures from 2008. The £500M 'loss' is actually again theoretical.

I am bitterly disappointed with the quality of this report. I will attempt to provide a detailed critique of it later in the week.

Why bother with a critique?

There is a fundamental flaw with the Hooper Report, its basis and therefore the conclusions. That flaw is:

"Policies to maintain the universal postal service in the United Kingdom."

The scope of the report is based on the USO being maintained, every household every day at a universal price. That has been the premise on which Royal Mail has operated and on which Hooper has based his report BUT the USO is NOT the Holy Grail. Does anyone actually believe a third party is interested in the USO - I don't mean you and I - I mean anyone at all in Government, Royal Mail Management or CWU? and how long would that last with outsiders involved.

Why on earth should we maintain a standard that is hampering our ability to become profitable? Does any other business actually hamstring itself by restricting price increases, maintaining unprofitable services and carry out work for other operators at a loss? We need to be freed from intervention by Government restriction, charge whatever is necessary to be profitable, scrap the USO and get rid of a management structure hell bent on privatisation at any cost and install a management committed to making a Government owned organisation profitable again. Instead of the Hooper Report on maintaining a system which is clearly unsustainable in the long term, we should have had a report on how to CREATE a reasonable but profitable service in the long term.

Mandelson said that we could move forward with privatisation OR manage the decline of the USO - and I think that is exactly what we should do - manage the decline in such a way that we can be profitable in decline. Mail volumes are reported to be falling and I accept that "snail mail" is in decline and will continue to decline, by managing that decline it would give us time to explore new markets and diversify.

If handing over 25% of the business to a third party - which is 25% of any profit and 40 to 50,000 job losses isn't an admission of failure and decline then I don't know what is.

Thing is though,the USO is the only thing stopping the Government from selling off Royal mail. Without it it's just another Company to be flogged off to the highest bidder.
Royal mails future lies in being as efficient as possible, and charging the going rate for its services. I've just spent over two hours reading this poxy report (It's my day off) and the one thing that sticks out is the fact that we are the cheapest in Europe other than Spain and Slovakia.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Postcomm and the government have blocked price rises in order to run down the company to a point where they can say "it's not working ,let's sell it"

Out of curiosity has anyone got the figures as to how much stamp prices have risen over say, the last twenty years?
