POSTAL union chiefs have ruled out more industrial action before Christmas.
The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) last week announced a one-day strike this Friday in protest over Royal Mail plans to close five of seven north west sorting centres, including Liverpool’s Copperas Hill which employs 600 sorting staff.
Regional union representatives met yesterday and decided against further action in a bid to coax Royal Mail back to the negotiating table and also to reduce disruption to post on the run-up to Christmas.
The north west reps are meeting with their national executive in London today to discuss the proposed Copperas Hill closure and will host meetings with MPs at the House of Commons tomorrow.
