Royal Mail will only survive with savage cuts

Savage cuts to the postal service will be urged in a report out this week.

An independent study to be handed to Business Secretary Lord Mandelson will call for cutbacks and office closures as the only way for the Royal Mail to survive.

But deliveries to homes will be saved.

The Government is expected to rule out any moves to privatise the postal group.

A source close to Lord Mandelson said: "Our concern is to save the Royal Mail and secure its future, not privatise it. We have a commitment to a publicly owned Royal Mail."

Postal unions fear the measures will mean job cuts.

The Communication Workers Union is to press ahead with a strike planned for Friday in a row over sorting office closures.

How can we cut anymore? Deliveries, at least, are really struggling at the moment and if they cut us back anymore then it will be a disaster. I don't know about the MC's though

(I suppose Tman will have to start looking at other employment).

Perhaps they will cut the amount of management positions, in all the offices around this area sorters delivery and collection staff have been slashed to the bone but the management are still all there

In my office, management has increased whilst the staff have decreased

Four managers in an office of 50 odd workers the other day. And they tell us RM are in trouble? You couldn't write it!

Get rid of cluster managers!!!! WTF do they actually do?

Just seen the bbc news it said as many as 50,000 job's to go there is only 142,500 real worker's left where will the axe fall next i wonder!. Let's start with :cfo and him :lfo

Latest news is 50,000 job's out of 170,000 and upto 71 mail center's maybe at risk!. source the time's off bbc news 24.

We've only got 1 mail centre and I don't see how they can reduce the delivery staff anymore.

I agree with you all i said was what i saw and heard on tv i only thought we had 81 mail center's in any case!. but i maybe corrected on that and other thing's.

If they amalgamated all your DO's then they could get rid of your MC. Just one big DO,then all you have to do is improve your sorting rate and walk a bit faster
