Just a quickie to see what if any impact the shock admission by Royal Mail that we should only be walking 2.1mph, will have on any Pegas***e revisions that are forth coming. When we had the first draft for Pegas***e it was done at the lower speed, and surprise surprise it put duties into our office. But alas our dim was told that was no good, as a duty or two had to be taken out, so off the planners went again this time using a higher walking speed and lower call rate, and low and behold the required duties were set to be axed.
So now that Royal Mail has made this shock admission, where does that leave all the offices who have had Pegas***e implemented and those who are set to go through it , like us

The union H/Q has an embargo on change at the moment so tell the management to stick it up their ass!.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the average generally used on these tools is 2.6mph and is widely used in Europe. the 4 mph would be the fastest anyone would walk on the flat and from what I can tell there is some spin going on here.

Obviously in RoyalMail you do your best to deliver your round within the acceptable constraints. Some posties use other means such as vehicles to achieve this. As we know mayn argue that workign to rule will demonstrate what a postie can genuinely achieve.

The main problem from my perspective is that some posties are faster than others. Generally spekaing younger can go quicker than the eldest (in general). However, RM can not discriminate on this unless they can show that a posties performance is below acceptable boundaries. Even then RM have to offer training etc. and it would take a approx. 1 year from startign proceeduings against someone based on performance before you could sack them

Walk Speeds

All representatives need to be aware that there are two walk speeds within the system (3.85 mph and 4mph) that have not been agreed with the CWU. You will need to ensure that full consideration is given to this when negotiating the final set of walks identified by the Pegasus/Geo-route system. Representatives should try wherever possible to at least achieve the 3.85mph walk rate for planning the revision.
