Hundreds of postmen in Oxford have announced plans to strike just days before Christmas.

Bob Cullen, area processing representative for the Communication Workers Union, confirmed up to 360 workers will go on strike at the mail centre in Garsington Road, Cowley.

Mr Cullen said the strike would begin in the early hours of Monday, December 15, and last for 24 hours.

He said the industrial action was designed to demonstrate his members opposition to plans to close the centre in June.

Mail centre workers in Bolton, Coventry, Crewe, Liverpool, Milton Keynes and Stockport will also strike in the same week.

Mr Cullen said no other Royal Mail offices in Oxfordshire would be affected by the strike.
