New christmas casual staff here, what to expect??

Hi there:)

I start my new Temp Christmas casual work with Royal mail in B,ham from next monday,

Can anyone tell me what sort of work I'll be doing? is it just letter sorting? and what to expect etc? does it get hard? repetitive work?

I'm on the late night shift - 10.30pm - 6am.

You will be doing any or all of the following. Opening and tipping mail bags, segregating mail - ie seperating it
into letters, flats (large envelopes), and packets, facing (putting letters into pods/trays facing the same way),
sorting, tying up full bags, loading bags onto containers (Yorkies), and wheeling the Yorkies out to the loading
bays.
I wouldn't say that it is hard, but it can be boring, particularly facing. It helps if you can get to know some of
the people you are working with, as a bit of chat/banter helps to pass the time. I usually find that a personal
stereo/ipod helps to pass the time on sorting, but I don't think they let casuals use them in my Mail Centre now.
Jeans and trainers will be fine, you may find it can be a bit dusty if you are tipping. You will be given a high vis
vest to wear. Good luck, hope you get on OK.

I started yesterday, went very well:)

I have one last question, are all ''Airmail'' letters put in the 1c Flats?
Because I had 2 managers, one said put the anything going abroad with the first class flats and the other say put them in the first class forwards :S

That's Standard Operating Procedure for RM Mail Centre Processing Managers - one tells you to do
something one way, then another tells you to do it another way. I suppose that's why RM needs so
many of them.
Can't say how it should be done in your MC as they all do things differently as well.
