They will just move you all to the nearest vacant mail center when they rationalize the mail center's in your region!.

We're lucky over here in NI, we've only one MC to cover the entire country so they could never fit all of us into it but they might build themselves a super delivery office for us all

They have all ready done it in South London,Both SW1 and SW3 DOs have been moved in to the old CCS building at 9 Elms Mail Centr(old offices sold for fortunes),There other major large unit Battersea is big enough to hold 2 surrounding DOs(SW8,SW12 or SW4)This is there plan to merge DOs in to super units housing 3,4 or 5 DOs and saving alot of Dosh on old out dated buildings.

Ours is going the other way we have 5 Post Codes in 1 building and talk is they are going to find 2 new buildings and spit us up 2 and 3 - but we also think they may bring in 4 further outlying small DOs into our 2 new ones. Confused, you will be.

There is a school of thought which would mean smaller DOs or at least having the same amount of room for fewer workers but more machinery.
Part timers. The idea being that in the not too distant future most delivery officers would be outworkers. There would be a delivery office but that would be manned by a full time cadre who prepped deliveries, in theory the walk sequenced mail would be easy to prepare together with the sorted flats. The later starts is merely educating the customer to expect the mail when they get it and not when they want it. Up rolls Gladys having dropped the kids off at school picks up a few bags of prepped mail and off she goes, old Joe having retired after a life time flogging his guts out in some dead end no pension job finding it hard to make ends meet rolls up at 10 picks up a few bags and off he goes. Throughout the day a succession of bodies arrive to pick up and deliver with a day glow RM waistcoat - think of the saving on uniform and the commitment? - I would imagine that will be another saving!
The question is will RM merge offices in different postcode areas for example a small bedfordshire D.O is very very close to a D.O in cambridgeshire due to both being very very close to the cambs/beds border.
DVB you are in the wrong job, and should have been a fortune teller.
What you have just described is exactly what they want to do, and is what they already do in Holland.
Over there they have 1.5 hour delivery spans, nothing is taken that won't fit through a letter box, and the majority of staff work 7.5 hours a week. If you're really greedy, you can do 2 walks a day and increase your hours to 15 per week.
Not surprisingly, 90% of staff are women or students, and all are paid the minimum wage.
