AN MP will see for himself just how busy a mail sorting office is at Christmas.
Bob Laxton, MP for Derby North, will take a tour of the delivery office at Royal Mail in Midland Road, Derby, on Friday.
As well as seeing the massive Christmas mail sorting operation, he will meet some of the 175 staff.
Royal Mail in Derby delivers to more than 51,000 addresses over the Christmas period.
The last recommended posting date for first-class mail to arrive in time for Christmas is Saturday, December 20.

More del points and less staff than hereford.
Perhaps they have some very spread out geographical areas to cover?
Maybe they have a large night crew or lots of reserves?

what a load of Bull! Derby is a Mail Centre and a Delivery Office plus East Midlands Airport. There are over 200 walks, most walks have approx 500-600 calls and Derby has a population of approx 260,000.175 staff and 51,00 addresses is rubbish. They probably mean 175 staff in the Mail Centre cos there's probably 400-500 staff based at Derby Office.Bob Laxton is a CWU sponsored MP but we didn't see or hear from him during last years strikes as he's a Government lacky who always tows the Party line-look at his Commons voting record! Last year we had Margaret Beckett round at Xmas in Derby Office with some "Managers in suits" I'd never seen before. It's the usual Royal Mail publicity machine at work.

According to the National Statistics the total households is 98,588 for the Derby area. So maybe I jumped the gun a little bit and believed some poorly researched story whenever I should've checked myself (of course maybe RM provided the figures).
