Job and finish (The evil within!)

Post by ruralpostie »

Just wondered how everyone else's office stood regards job and finish.
I have heard rumours from other offices in different areas they are abandoning job and finish, Is this true?
To my mind its job and finish has significantly contributed towards ruining the high standards of the job. All posties wanna do now is "carve" the job up and cut all corners possible to get home a little bit earlier at the expense off their jobs.
i.e.....
1. coming in before their start time by as much as an hour :no no
2. Not taking meal reliefs of any kind :cuppa
3. "Running/sprinting" round at high speed to get done
4. Doorstepping ALL the time :whistle
5.Being iggnorant to customers by not "giving them the time off day" :silenced
....and the list goes on, but these are many off the key points
Most posties in my office do one, many or ALL of these practices everyday!!
Most off this is down to job and finish!!! :d'oh!
The jobs complety f****d. :cry
Now when anyone does the job "properly" they get moaned at by management for taking their time :funneh
I have mentioned to staff before now about job and finish and my feelings on it, but all I get is "I just wanna get the job done and get home, I don't care"...I can't blame them and accept the fact u cannot change ppls attitude easily...
The only way is to abandon Job and finish at a higher level.. :Very Happy

I agree with most if not all that you have said mate :Applause and believe that if and when a deal on phase 3 of pay and mod is agreed then most if not all of what you have pointed out will come to an end.

Job and finish should've ended whenever the flexibility came in, we're all supposed to work the hours paid now.

So what are we supposed to do, get the bus back 7 miles to the DO just to sign off? Will we get paid for that time?

Almost all posties in my office do the points mentioned in this topic as job and finish means once you are out of the office RM doesn't have to worry. Job and finish = make your own way home after the last letter. Which is great news for car users who are killing the job.

Sorry I did miss that side of the debate - we are in the city here and most use own transport. Managers are aware people may finish early and eventually that will be addressed with MORE cut backs. :cry

Job and finish is alive and kicking in my D.O as phase 3 is on hold due to pegasus.

Our area deliverey aggrement is any extra work has to be pre scheduled before delivery meaning we can not be allocated any extra work upon return from delivery. If the manager dosent allocate any extra work then once were back from delivery we go home.

Job and finish is a sure fire way of giving RM the ammunution to cut jobs. If and when a manager has to make savings on his/her budget and they see eight of you going home one hour early each day thats 40 hours or one job they can save.
In our office all dutie are timed so we have a full meal relief,go out on the vans, complete our delivery and return to the office on the vans. This protects the jobs of walking posties and drivers.
After 25 years in the job I will continue to bang on about doing the job in the right and proper way to protect the jobs of, not only the current staff, but of those of the future.
Some posties, who because of their seniority will continue 'job and finish' thinking their job is safe. To my mind this is totally selfish. Think of the new starters, we were all one once.

Yep, we still have job and finish in our office. It really is a vicious circle. I try and doing everything right but it is frustrating when you're one of the last out of the office every day and then hear the next day about how people were done in a couple of hours (HOW, by the way? I think I go at a reasonable pace, so I can only assume these guys are running about, jumping walls, doorstepping etc?) I find myself rushing a bit more than I normally would and therefore making more mistakes.

Too many people come in early in my delivery office and I don't agree with it. This will mean you need to be in bed earlier (Sod that)

I only come early if I got something important or need to finish by certain time to go somewhere ie football match. Which doesn't happens very often.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought phase 3 was in. We were told the last 1.5% pay rise and the £400.00 payment was tied to phase 3. We have been doing it for about 3 months now. Saved s**t loads of hours but no bonus.
